Technical Support SpecialistThe Position: Reporting to the IT Manager, the primary focus of the Technical Support Specialist is to provide effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructures.
Key Responsibilities:- Install new / rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
- Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary.
- Process customer service requests, through the complete cycle of receiving a request, investigating/troubleshooting, identifying a solution and fixing the problem. A root cause analysis is then undertaken to identify the underlying problem beyond the immediate symptoms
- Maintaining in-depth, technical knowledge of the infrastructure's components, capabilities and associated diagnostic/troubleshooting/management tools.
- Execute project leader duties through all phases of the project life cycle, including project definition, planning, scheduling, costing, initiation, execution, closure, and post-project review, to ensure the project's associated benefits are delivered on-time and on-budget.
- Produce technical documentation for new and existing infrastructures.
- Communicate and disseminate information, through written reports and group presentations, to inform customers of issues/opportunities affecting the infrastructure component, in terms understandable by both the customer and IT communities.
- Enforce and educate user community of IT security policies as defined by the site, the division, and the corporation.
Skills and Qualifications:- Related post-secondary education;
- Fully qualified level role with five or more years of directly related experience;
- Windows Server and/or CompTIA Server+ certification is beneficial;
- Working independently and within a team with minimal supervision with the ability to collaborate cross functionally at all levels within the business;
- VMWare experience is a must.
