Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Fleet Technical Director, the Technical Superintendent functions with considerable independence and initiative and is responsible for taking full technical ownership of assigned vessels. In this role, you will keep your vessels safe, compliant, reliable and cost-effective, and serve as the primary technical link between the office, the ship and our service providers. This is a hands-on Technical Superintendent role for a seasoned marine engineer who enjoys developing shipboard talent as much as solving technical problems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

A Technical Superintendent that provides full technical management and daily support for assigned vessels in line with Class, Flag, Statutory and Company requirements and our ISM/SMS procedures.

Plans, oversees and coordinates maintenance, repairs, dry-dockings and surveys, ensuring hull and machinery meet applicable codes and standards.

Monitors vessel performance and drive follow-up actions to resolution.

A Technical Superintendent that owns vessel budgets and operating expenditures and explain variances to management.

Visits vessels regularly to assess condition, compliance and maintenance; prepare Vessel Condition Reports and lead shipboard safety meetings.

A Technical Superintendent that coaches, mentors and trains Chief Engineers; helps recruit and select Chief Engineer candidates and recommends promotions to 1st Assistant Engineer and Chief Engineer.

Partners with HSQE, Crewing, Operations and Procurement; evaluates vessel requisitions and provides technical guidance.

A Technical Superintendent that supports audits and incident investigations.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, naval architecture or a related maritime discipline; maritime academy graduates strongly preferred.

8+ years of marine engineering experience, including seagoing service as a licensed engineering officer.

USCG Chief Engineer or 1st Assistant Engineer license (or equivalent STCW certificate) strongly preferred.

Shoreside superintendent or assistant superintendent experience preferred.

Proven experience planning and managing dry-dockings and major repairs.

Strong working knowledge of Class, Flag, USCG and IMO requirements, including ISM.

Budget management experience and comfort with Office 365.

Clear communicator who sets high standards and builds strong relationships with officers, crew and vendors.

Ability to travel domestically and internationally, pass a post-offer background check, and obtain a TWIC within three months of hire.

The selected candidate must possess access to a reliable form of transportation with the ability to work in the office during standard business hours Monday - Thursday, with a one-hour lunch. This includes the option to work from home on Fridays during standard business hours with a one-hour lunch. This position is expected to perform work outside and beyond normal working hours during times of critical deadlines, projects, or when there are time-sensitive duties.

Able to successfully pass a post-offer background check.
