About the role:
The Outside Mirror Technical Specialist serves as the technical expert for outside mirror systems, providing engineering leadership, technical direction, and support across GM vehicle programs. This role ensures robust, compliant, and launch-ready mirror designs while partnering with DREs, suppliers, manufacturing, quality, and vehicle teams to resolve complex technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership for outside mirror systems, including structures, mechanisms, actuators, glass, lighting, cameras, sensors, wiring, seals, and interfaces.
  • Mentor and support DREs through design development, requirements definition, supplier management, validation, issue resolution, and release activities.
  • Interpret and apply GM standards, technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Lead resolution of design, quality, manufacturing, warranty, and launch issues using data-driven problem-solving methods.
  • Support program reviews, design reviews, supplier reviews, plant activities, and launch readiness assessments.
  • Review engineering deliverables, including DFMEAs, DVP&R, tolerance analyses, engineering changes, and technical documentation.
  • Partner with suppliers and purchasing teams to ensure technical requirements are met and risks are mitigated.
  • Drive standardization, reuse of proven designs, and continuous improvement initiatives across programs.
  • Lead benchmarking activities, road-to-virtual development strategies, and lessons-learned documentation.
  • Represent outside mirror engineering in cross-functional forums and mentor engineers within the organization.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive automotive product development experience with strong expertise in outside mirrors or related exterior systems.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle development, component design, validation, manufacturing, supplier management, and launch processes.
  • Experience with design release, DFMEA, DVP&R, root cause analysis, tolerance analysis, and issue tracking.
  • Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to quality, safety, customer satisfaction, timing, and cost objectives.
