Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically strong Senior Accountant to join our accounting team in a rapidly growing, employee-owned (ESOP) company. This role will focus on technical accounting, financial reporting, and complex transaction support, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP while contributing to process improvements and scalability.

The ideal candidate has 3-5 years of accounting and/or industry experience, along with a strong understanding of technical accounting concepts. They can work both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment. This individual demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and can effectively multitask and prioritize between daily responsibilities and project-based work. The candidate thrives in a deadline-driven setting and contributes positively to a high-performance team culture.

Job Responsibilities

Technical Accounting & Research
  • Research, document, and implement accounting treatment for complex transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP
  • Assist in preparing accounting memos for areas such as:
    • Revenue recognition (ASC 606)
    • Leases (ASC 842)
    • Stock-based compensation / ESOP-related accounting
    • Business combinations, goodwill, and intangibles
  • Partner with external auditors on technical matters and support audit requests

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure timely and accurate close processes, including variance analysis
  • Assist with external reporting requirements and lender reporting.

General Ledger & Close Process
  • Own key areas of the month-end close (e.g., accruals, fixed assets, leases, equity)
  • Review and post journal entries and reconciliations
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline close timelines

ESOP & Equity Accounting
  • Assist with ESOP accounting and annual valuation support
  • Work with third-party valuation specialists and auditors
  • Maintain equity roll forwards and related disclosures

Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Support development and maintenance of internal controls
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards
  • Assist with documentation of accounting policies and procedures

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with FP&A, operations, and HR (for payroll/equity-related matters)
  • Participant in financial forecasting and other financial analysis
  • Support M&A activity and integration efforts, as applicable
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting


Skills and Qualifications

Required
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting research
  • Experience preparing or reviewing financial statements
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
  • Excellent project management skills

Preferred
  • CPA (preferred but not required)
  • Audit experience a plus
  • Financial forecasting and other financial analysis
  • M&A transaction and/or integration experience a plus
  • Experience in mid-sized or high-growth companies
  • Experience with Certinia (FinancialForce) ERP a plus
  • Experience with ESOP accounting, equity, or valuation support

Compensation

The starting base salary for this Brea, CA position is expected to be between $85,000 to $110,000 annually. Actual salary will be determined based on skills, experience (to the extent relevant) and other job-related factors, consistent with applicable law.
