Full Job Description
The Field Engineer serves as the technical interface between the company and its customers, providing expertise in polymer materials, plastics processing, and application development. This role supports customers in resolving technical challenges, optimizing manufacturing processes, evaluating new material technologies, and ensuring successful implementation of the company's products in the field. Field Engineer works closely with customers, engineering, operations, sales, and quality teams to deliver practical solutions and drive customer success.

Marmon Aerospace & Defense Group delivers high‑performance wire, cable, and connectivity solutions engineered for the demanding needs of aerospace, defense, space, and advanced industrial applications.

Gendon Polymer Services is a specialty compounder based in Bolton, Ontario, Canada. Gendon, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is prime developer of custom compounds for a wide range of applications from wire and cable to building and construction, as well as highly engineered technical compounds for injection molding applications.

  • Salary Range: $139,000.00 - $173,500.00 CAD
    (Depends on industry specific and overall years of experience)

Key Responsibilities in the Role:

  • Develop a strong understanding of polymer and plastic materials, including material selection, formulation, processing, and end-use performance.
  • Provide technical support to customers by troubleshooting processing, manufacturing, and product performance issues related to polymer compounds and cable materials.
  • Collaborate with customers to identify root causes of material and processing challenges and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Support qualification and commercialization of new materials through plant trials, process optimization, small-scale wire extrusion trials, and performance evaluations.
  • Assist customers with extrusion, compounding, and cable manufacturing processes to improve productivity, quality, and product consistency.
  • Evaluate field performance data and customer feedback to drive continuous improvement and new product development initiatives.
  • Work closely with engineering, operations, sales, and quality teams to ensure successful implementation of new technologies and products.
  • Conduct on-site customer visits, technical presentations, and training sessions related to material performance, processing, and application development.
  • Provide recommendations on material selection, processing conditions, and product design based on application requirements and industry standards.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting trial results, troubleshooting activities, customer interactions, and recommendations.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience requried
  • Strong understanding of polymer science, plastics engineering, and material characterization.
  • Knowledge of polymer processing technologies including extrusion, compounding, and wire & cable manufacturing.
  • Experience troubleshooting manufacturing and product performance issues.
  • Ability to analyze technical data and identify root causes of material and process-related problems.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with fluoropolymers, HFFR compounds, polyolefins, engineering thermoplastics, and thermoset materials is preferred.
  • Understanding of wire and cable industry standards and applications is an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 50% of the time throughout North America, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico, to support customer visits, technical troubleshooting, product trials, and business development activities.
