Full Job Description
You will become our Technical Project Manager. Your first assignment will be to manage a unique project involving the lifecycle management of a state-of-the-art hardware platform that will eventually be deployed across every post office in the country. You will represent the USPS and manage the solicitation of, evaluation of, and selection of a variety of hardware platforms. You will drive the technological competition for the optimal hardware platform solution where your co-worker is focused on the custom-design and development of a unique software application that will operate on your hardware platform. As the Technical PM, you will then manage its deployment from a pilot solution into a national deployment.
The ideal candidate will have strong project management knowledge and expertise with a technical understanding of hardware platforms, be energetic and enthusiastic, and be an excellent communicator with vendors and upper management. Must have strong MS Project skills and a strong foundation of project management in a technical environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. In support of the government manager, acts as a customer representative that explores the market for hardware platform vendors, performs market research against required specifications, develops RFI/RFP/SOWs, develops scoring criteria, evaluates proposals, and recommends the selection of vendors.
2. Onboards vendors, works with software team to develop total system.
3. Creates, reviews, changes, and executes the activity plans for business and technology solutions, including the complete system life cycle, coordination across all technology solution providers and maintenance to meet customer requirements.
4. Oversees, allocates, reviews and adjusts the vendor resources to meet the business and technology solution requirements.
5. Reviews operational models to determine revenue, cost, and service impacts; collects and assembles technical information for determination of equipment/systems requirements and associated training programs; and presents training/informational programs.
6. Develops and maintains communication processes that provide management, staff, and customers the business and technology solution goals and benefits.
7. Monitors, evaluates, and reports on project status, costs, and performance when compared to plan and recommends changes to management. Owns final responsibility successful development, implementation and maintenance of all aspects of project and financial management.
8. Coordinates the development and maintenance of the justification for funding the business and technical solution effort(s).
9. Ensures programs, projects and IT resources maintain compliance with defined technology standards, policies, processes and best industry practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 7 years of experience in Technical Project Management is required.
A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
PMP Certification is a plus, but not required.
Must have technical background as this is a solo project and does not include team member support.
