Technical Project Manager / FinOps Job DescriptionAbout the Role:As a Technical Project Manager / FinOps, you will keep Cloud FinOps operations running with precision while driving the delivery of its next-generation FinOps platform. You sit at the intersection of technical project execution, financial operations, and cloud cost management, coordinating the recurring processes, reporting cycles, program workstreams, and cross-team workflows that make FinOps practice reliable and scalable.
You will manage FinOps work from initiation through completion: chargeback and billing cycles, cloud invoice processing, cost anomaly management, Power BI reporting, and executive-facing presentations. You coordinate delivery across the engineering, data, and AI teams building the next-gen FinOps platform, facilitating agile ceremonies, removing blockers, and ensuring every workstream has clear ownership, documented procedures, and on-time output.
What You'll Do:FinOps Operations & Billing- Execute the monthly chargeback reallocation process end-to-end: validate automated process results, format and validate accounting sheets, obtain team approvals, distribute the FMC cloud cost report to finance, and store all records for auditing.
- Validate cloud invoices each month across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Evaluate future costs to build quarterly purchase orders, submit invoices for payment via Coupa, and track payment status to ensure on-time submission.
- Coordinate AWS and Azure private offer processing with procurement, managing approximately one offer per week. Confirm MACC applicability and manage Azure billing profile and subscription routing for each purchase.
- Support monthly savings plan and reserved instance purchasing cycles, working with the cloud engineering team to evaluate commitment recommendations and execute approved purchases.
Cost Anomaly Management- Monitor and triage cost anomaly alerts across cloud providers. Evaluate each notification, route it to the appropriate engineering or business team, and follow through to resolution.
- Log all cost anomaly notifications, track savings captured, and maintain the anomaly tracking record as the authoritative source for reporting and audit purposes.
CloudHealth Administration- Manage vendor management, user access, anomaly alert rules, and perspective tuning within the CloudHealth platform to ensure cost visibility and governance remain current as the cloud environment evolves.
- Monitor, maintain, and adapt CloudHealth configurations in response to changes in cloud provider billing formats, account structures, and tagging taxonomies.
Reporting & Data- Maintain and continuously improve the FinOps Power BI reporting suite, including cloud cost and savings reports, cloud agreement burndown reports, cloud AI cost tracking, TFE compliance, server agent compliance, and tagging dashboards.
- Develop new Power BI reports as business requirements evolve. Work with FinOps engineers and analysts to source accurate data, validate outputs, and publish on schedule.
- Provide data and updated slides for recurring presentations: 3 line-of-business PowerPoint decks monthly, the weekly Ravi leadership report, the monthly cloud report, quarterly reports, and year-end summaries.
- Assist engineering and business teams with cloud cost research, providing detailed cost breakdowns and working directly with teams to help them understand and act on their cloud spend.
Agile Facilitation & Technical Project Coordination- Facilitate FinOps team agile ceremonies: daily stand-ups, sprint planning and reviews, backlog grooming, and epic and story estimations.
- Identify and resolve team obstacles. Escalate impediments that block sprint deliverables and manage risk across FinOps delivery and operational lifecycles.
- Track and report on team performance, backlog health, and continuous improvement metrics. Manage and maintain financial tracking, reporting systems, and operational output.
- Guide the team on agile policies and procedures, coaching members on scrum principles and helping the team continuously refine how it works.
Next-Generation FinOps Program Management- Serve as the program coordinator for next-generation FinOps platform initiative, tracking workstreams across engineering, data, AI/ML, and analytics teams and ensuring dependencies are visible and managed.
- Own the program-level backlog and roadmap artifact for the next-gen FinOps build: maintain the master plan, track milestone progress, surface risks and blockers to leadership, and keep all stakeholders aligned on delivery status.
- Coordinate sprint-level delivery across multiple contributing teams, running cross-team ceremonies and follow-ups to ensure the program moves forward without gaps between workstreams.
- Manage change as new FinOps platform capabilities roll out: coordinate communications, training, and adoption activities with FinOps analysts, engineering teams, and business stakeholders affected by new tools and processes.
- Track program-level KPIs and report on progress against the next-gen FinOps roadmap in leadership connects, SteerCo updates, and quarterly business reviews.
- Identify process gaps between the current-state FinOps practice and the target-state platform vision. Define transition plans and coordinate the hand-off from legacy processes to new automated capabilities as they become available.
- Manage relationships with internal platform teams (AIDP, ECMP, Cloud Assistant) to coordinate integrations and dependencies that the next-gen FinOps platform relies on.
Documentation & Process Management- Maintain the FinOps SharePoint site and Teams folders as the central repository for all process documentation, report archives, and operational records.
- Update existing process documents on a recurring basis and create new documentation as processes are built or revised, keeping the team's knowledge base current and audit-ready.
- Create effective and persuasive presentations. Present findings and operational updates to team members, business stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Lead by example and model behaviors consistent with RISE values - Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence.
What You'll Need:- Bachelor's Degree preferred with 3-7 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
- Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Scrum Alliance, or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) certification preferred. PMP or equivalent program management certification a plus.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multi-team technology programs or platform build initiatives, including roadmap tracking, cross-team dependency management, and stakeholder communication.
- Experience running agile ceremonies across more than one team simultaneously, with the ability to manage both sprint-level execution and longer-horizon program planning in parallel.
- Hands-on experience with cloud financial management or FinOps operations, including billing, chargeback, invoicing, or cost reporting for at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Proficiency with Power BI: ability to maintain existing reports, build new ones, and validate data accuracy against source systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling), PowerPoint (executive-ready presentations), Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with cloud cost management tooling such as CloudHealth, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with enterprise invoice and purchase order workflows (Coupa or equivalent) and an understanding of how cloud chargeback affects business unit financials.
- Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve moderately complex problems. Ability to analyze situations and apply sound judgment to reach the right outcome.
- Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset. Comfortable managing multiple recurring processes simultaneously and holding others accountable to deadlines.
- Clear communicator with the ability to explain complex cloud cost and billing concepts to non-technical stakeholders in straightforward terms.
- Familiarity with ServiceNow or equivalent ticketing systems for tracking requests and support activity.
- SQL familiarity preferred - ability to write and interpret basic queries to validate data, troubleshoot pipeline outputs, and support ad hoc cost analysis.
