Our client is seeking a Technical Backend Laboratory Systems Consultant to support implementations, integrations, system upgrades, and workflow optimization for healthcare and laboratory clients.

Title: Professional Services Consultant - Backend Laboratory Systems


Location: US Remote | Travel: Up to 20%
Employment: Direct Hire
Salary: $100,000-$120,000 (Depends on experience level)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Position Overview

This role is ideal for someone who combines laboratory information systems expertise with hands-on coding, SQL, interfaces, reporting, and backend application development. The consultant will work with clients and internal technical teams to understand laboratory workflows, develop and troubleshoot solutions, and optimize system functionality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support backend implementation, configuration, development, and optimization of laboratory software applications.
  • Develop and maintain laboratory test codes, workflows, reports, queries, and system configurations.
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL/PL/SQL queries and support database-related development.
  • Develop, troubleshoot, and support APIs and system interfaces, including HL7 integrations.
  • Utilize programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, or similar to develop or enhance application functionality.
  • Analyze how multiple systems interact and identify technical solutions to improve laboratory workflows.
  • Support software implementations, upgrades, integrations, and post-production troubleshooting.
  • Work with laboratory stakeholders to translate business/workflow requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop reports, ad hoc queries, and data-driven solutions based on client requirements.
  • Participate in technical discovery, workflow analysis, testing, documentation, and deployment activities.
  • Troubleshoot complex application and integration issues and escalate when appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to clients and other consultants.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools and automation to improve development, documentation, analysis, and delivery efficiency.
  • Manage assigned technical projects and deliverables while maintaining strong client relationships.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS/LIMS) or comparable laboratory software.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
  • 3-5 years of hands-on laboratory workflow and test code development.
  • 3-5 years of SQL/PL/SQL development and query writing.
  • 3-5 years of API/interface development or integration experience, particularly HL7.
  • 3-5 years of report and ad hoc query development.
  • 1+ year of hands-on programming experience with C#, Java, Python, or similar languages.
  • Experience working in a software implementation, consulting, application development, or technical professional services environment.
  • Strong understanding of backend application architecture, databases, interfaces, and system integrations.
  • Ability to translate laboratory/business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work directly with technical and laboratory stakeholders.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development or productivity tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% to client sites.
