When applicable, Bombardier promotes flexible and hybrid work policies.
Technical Expert, Engineering - Aircraft LoadsAt Bombardier Aerospace, our employees work together to evolve mobility worldwide - one good idea at a time. If you have a good idea, we'll provide the environment where it will thrive and grow into a great product or customer experience. Your ideas are our fuel.
What are your contributions to the team?- Act as an Aircraft Loads Applications Lead: elaborate mid to long term plans and coordinate their execution by supporting and providing technical leadership, mentoring, and training to a team of Aircraft Loads Professionals
- Analyze complex Aircraft Loads problems and organize technical reviews to resolve complex investigations
- Contribute to growing the Loads engineering Knowledge Domain by proposing the approaches and techniques to improve the efficiency and fidelity of aircraft loads simulations
- Use engineering judgment on selecting the appropriate methods, techniques, and tools in resolving complex issues
- Lead interface with other engineering disciplines such as Flight Characteristics, Structures, Mass Properties, Systems, Fly-By-Wire, Landing Gear and Flight Test
- Perform analyses and simulations to compute aircraft design loads, in support of new aircraft design studies and continued airworthiness of in-service aircraft,
- Review FEM models to compute airframe design loads, component design loads (high lift and control surface)
- Perform dynamic aeroelastic response analyses for tuned discrete gust and continuous turbulence with and without the effects from fly-by-wire
- Define restrictions and special instructions for flight test procedures based on loads and dynamics analyses
- Provide Loads support for both flight test and in-service AOGs
- Document analyses and findings in engineering certification reports
- Support Aircraft Landing Gear development, analysis and test.
How to thrive in this role?- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (advanced education is considered an asset)
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in external loads analyses in the aerospace industry
- Strong understanding of the FAR 25 certification requirements and regulatory standards
- Deep expertise in static and dynamic aeroelastic loads analysis
- Proven ability to develop finite element models (FEM), compute airframe and component design loads (e.g., high lift and control surfaces) and perform flutter and aeroservoelastic analyses
- Hands-on experience with Nastran for dynamic and aeroelastic analysis; familiarity with DMAP is a plus
- Solid knowledge of FEM principles, unsteady aerodynamics, and frequency-based data analysis
- Familiarity with linearization of controls laws for use in TDG, PSD gust, and aeroservoelastic simulations
- Strong understanding of engine fan blade-out and windmilling dynamic loads analysis
- Experience working in flight test environments, including data collection and correlation between test results and analytical predictions
- Good knowledge of flight test instrumentation (e.g., strain gauges, accelerometers, pressure sensors)
- Advanced programming skills in MATLAB, Python, Fortran, C/C++, and scripting in Linux/Windows environments
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to plan and execute tasks within budget and schedule
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to perform under pressure and manage multiple priorities
