  • Contribute to special projects with technical insights
  • Support compliance with manufacturers' warranty policies

Full Job Description
The Technical Communicator- AFA will be responsible for performing complete failure analysis and reports on various Caterpillar components, parts, and systems.

Compensation

$83,000.00 - $93,000.00

The listed base salary is just one component of our total rewards package, and performance-based or discretionary bonuses may be available.

In a typical day, YOU will:

  • Perform failure analysis, identify the root cause of failure and produce reports
  • Present and explain report findings to various stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Work closely with various teams and business groups such as Technical Training, Technical Services, Condition Monitoring, and various CAT product groups
  • Provide technical support to the Toromont Cat service operations; including after sales service, shop, rental, sales, parts, branches & customers
  • Write site visit reports and technical reports, as needed
  • Provide technical support for the various special projects
  • Help with the application and understanding of the manufacturer's warranty policies
  • Develop & maintain a solid technical knowledge of the products sold by Toromont Cat
  • Provide regular technical updates to the technicians that repair and maintain the products under their responsibility
  • Inform Caterpillar about new product problems and work with the various groups at Caterpillar to resolve those problems and to improve the products
  • Assist branches with Goodwill and warranty support from CAT if results of failure analysis merits
  • Actively participate in PPM (Product Problem Management) initiatives
  • Periodically provide technical seminars, small training sessions, and create technical documentation as required


Must-haves for this role:

  • A Heavy Equipment License or equivalent experience in a the Technical Field/Heavy Equipment Industry
  • Highly safety conscious with a minimum of 5 years practical experience diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing Cat Heavy Equipment
  • Written and spoken communication skills in French and English is considered an asset
  • Previous experience with failure analysis is an asset
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Results driven with solid business acumen and customer centric with proven commitment to deliver internal and external service excellence continuously
  • Improvement mindset, self-motivated and collaborative team player able to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
  • Adaptable and able to address competing and multiple priorities by planning effective strategies and remaining current on the market conditions
  • Highly computer literate with proficiencies in Microsoft Applications
  • Experience with Cat systems/DBS/SIS would be highly beneficial
  • Willing and able to travel and work outside regular business hours as required
  • Spoken English and French language would be an asset
  • A valid Passport and Driver's License with current clean Driver's Abstract
