Job DescriptionBAE Systems is seeking a Strategic Weapons System Library Technical Editor. As a Technical Editor, you will make key contributions to the Documentation Enterprise team in support of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP). You will perform a variety of tasks related to producing and editing technical documents and technical procedure manuals such as: Strategic Systems Program Ordnance Pamphlets, Ordnance Documents, Corrective Maintenance Procedures, and related documentation to include but not be limited to governing documents, correspondence, document technical specifications, and work instructions. Accuracy, integrity, attention to detail, subject matter expertise, and the ability to work well independently and with others are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate.
This position is responsible for working closely with Subject Matter Experts, Technologists, and other Technical Editors to support the creation of technical data; accurately editing and formatting Department of Navy Technical Manuals; performing quality checks on externally submitted data; and maintaining data integrity. In addition, the Technical Editor will coordinate document production and distribution schedules; decipher redlines (changes) on technical procedures and drawings made by contractor partners or other team members; proofread material for content structure, document format, spelling, and punctuation; communicate with team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of technical data; and recommend changes to internal processes and procedures. The candidate must also express a willingness to contribute skill expertise to other related duties as requested or assigned.
Required Skills and EducationEducation and years of related/relevant work experience required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or Computer Science and at least 4 years of related/relevant work expereince, or High School and at least 8 years related/relevant work experience.

- Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for formatting inconsistencies
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as outstanding proofreading and formatting skills
- Ability to edit professional documents for content, sentence tense continuity, and adherence to established standards
- Has the ability to perform documentation coordination and production activities within tight deadlines concentrating on attention to detail and accuracy of document content
- Has strong interpersonal skills: able to collaborate with all staff levels and across all program areas to produce timely, high-quality documentation
- Has flexibility in dealing with changing priorities
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds
Preferred Skills and Education- Essential knowledge and experience proofreading/editing, that includes grammar skills
- Knowledgeable of or has Continued Process Improvement experience
- Ability to apply knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, policies, and procedures is a plus
- Familiar with Controlled Unclassified Information (e.g., requirements, portion markings, and creation)
- Experience in documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Microsoft, Arbortext, Vulcan, Adobe etc.)
- Familiar with producing structured electronic manuals in SGML, XML and S1000D in compliance per Navy approved DTDs
- Experience creating or manipulating graphic files
- Understanding of military documenation doctrine such as MIL-STD-38784 and DoD Correspnodence Manual
