Overview

We are seeking a full-time Team Leader/Manager Compliance Engineering in our Cary, NC location. In this role, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities of a Compliance Engineering team that is responsible for global product compliance certification for Garmin consumer products.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and develop a team of Compliance Engineers responsible for ensuring Garmin consumer products meet worldwide RF, EMC and Safety regulations and standards
  • Provide technical guidance on product compliance matters involving areas such as:
  • RF and wireless regulatory requirements (e.g. FCC, ISED, RED)
  • EMC and electrical safety
  • RF exposure and SAR
  • Product safety requirements
  • Product labeling, documentation, and Declarations of Conformity
  • Global market access and certification requirements
  • Partner with hardware and software teams as well as segment leadership to integrate compliance requirements into the product development lifecycle.
  • Ensure team is executing the regulatory process from compliance planning and certification through global market access and sustaining.
  • Work closely with internal/external laboratories and certification partners.
  • Drive organizational process improvements, development of technical capabilities of the team, and collaboration across the global Compliance organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Working knowledge of multiple compliance disciplines such as RF/wireless, EMC, electrical/product safety, RF exposure/SAR or global market access.
  • Experience in interpreting and applying regulations, standards, certification requirements, and regulatory guidance to product designs.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including coaching and developing teammates, resolving conflicts, providing effective feedback, and ensuring the team meeting project deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with ability to build effective relationships and communicate technical and regulatory topics to engineering teams, leadership, internal/external labs and other stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications
  • Product compliance experience with consumer wireless products incorporating technologies like Wi-Fi, BT/BLE, LTE/NTN, GNSS, UWB, radar, etc.
  • Technical expertise in one or more compliance disciplines, such as wireless technologies, EMC, RF exposure/SAR, product safety or global market access.
  • Experience with testing and certification requirements to one or more of the following: FCC part 15, part 25, part 80, part 95, RSS-GEN and applicable RSS(s), ETSI standards, etc.
  • Experience working with accredited labs, certification bodies, Notified Bodies, regulatory authorities, industry organizations and international certification partners.
  • Experience Design for Compliance, pre-compliance or other processes that integrate compliance earlier into product development.
