Title: Team Leader, Communications

Department: Communications and Government Relations

Location: 6300 Steeles Ave West, Woodbridge

Total Potential Compensation: $100,000-$115,000

Position Summary:

The Team Leader, Communications provides day-to-day leadership for the organization's digital communications, media relations, sponsorship, advertising and content activities. This role guides a team of communications professionals, aligns priorities to business objectives, and ensures communications are timely, accurate, audience-focused and consistent with 407 ETR's brand, reputation and service standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead, coach and support communications professionals responsible for digital communications, media relations, sponsorships, advertising and content delivery.
  • Set clear priorities, coordinate workload planning and ensure deliverables are completed on time, aligned to business needs and consistent with 407 ETR's standards.
  • Support team effectiveness by providing guidance, feedback, knowledge sharing and input into development and performance discussions.
  • Act as an escalation point for operational issues, competing priorities and resource challenges, using sound judgement to recommend practical solutions.
  • Lead integrated content planning and editorial calendar development across paid, earned, shared and owned channels.
  • Develop, review and support communications materials, including digital content, media materials, advertising copy, executive messages, employee communications and customer-facing updates.
  • Lead proactive media relations activities and support reactive media, issues and reputational matters in partnership with Government Relations, as required.
  • Review digital, media, sponsorship and advertising reporting, using insights to improve communications effectiveness, audience engagement and service delivery.
  • Partner with leaders, business units and cross-functional teams to deliver communications approaches that support organizational priorities, customer experience and stakeholder trust.
  • Coordinate with external agencies, creative partners, vendors and community partners to support campaign delivery, sponsorship activations and communications initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of communications trends, digital tools, media landscape changes and audience insights to strengthen recommendations and channel effectiveness.
  • Identify process improvements that enhance efficiency, collaboration and service delivery.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications:
  • Eight (8) or more years of progressive experience in communications, digital marketing, public affairs, media relations, advertising, sponsorships or corporate communications.
  • University degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, business or a related field; a post-graduate certificate in public relations, communications, sponsorships or events is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and coordinating communications professionals in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Proven ability to set clear direction, support accountability, exercise sound judgement and create an inclusive, collaborative team environment.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communications, including website management, social media, mobile applications, content management systems, analytics and emerging digital trends.
  • Experience developing and executing multi-channel communications, sponsorship and advertising campaigns.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to tailor content for digital, executive, employee, customer, public and media audiences.
  • Strong understanding of media relations, including media monitoring, story development, pitch coordination, issues management and reputational considerations.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with leaders, business partners, community organizations, agencies, vendors and media contacts.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, coordinate resources and deliver high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Strong copywriting, editing and proofreading skills; knowledge of CP Style is required.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign; proficiency in Canva is also required.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, discretion, adaptability and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as business needs require.
