AES Clean Energy is seeking a
Team Lead, Structures & Pricing to join its Commercial team, reporting to the Manager of Structures & Pricing. This role plays a key leadership function in evaluating, structuring, and pricing renewable, storage, and hybrid transactions, while driving the development of advanced commercial analytics and supporting the broader Structures & Pricing platform.
The Team Lead will partner closely with Origination, Trading, Risk Management, and other commercial teams to lead transaction valuation efforts, guide modeling development, and ensure alignment with AES Clean Energy's market views and risk frameworks. This role also includes mentorship of junior team members and ownership of key modeling and valuation workstreams across the deal pipeline.
Main Responsibilities:
Transaction Valuation & Structuring - Lead valuation and pricing of renewable, energy storage, and hybrid transactions, including complex and customized power offtake agreements, with ownership of key deal workstreams.
- Partner with Origination, Structured Origination, M&A, and Development teams to structure transactions, providing guidance on pricing, risk allocation, and commercial strategy.
- Ensure transaction valuations are aligned with AES Clean Energy's power market views through coordination with Term Trading and Structured Trading teams.
- Serve as a senior reviewer for valuation outputs, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and appropriate representation of risks and assumptions.
Modeling, Analytics & Platform Development - Lead development, enhancement, and standardization of commercial and deal-level models used to value solar, wind, battery storage, and hybrid assets.
- Drive automation and efficiency improvements across modeling workflows to increase scalability and reduce turnaround times.
- Own and contribute to the evolution of internal pricing tools, valuation frameworks, and model governance practices.
- Guide best practices in model development, documentation, and version control across the team.
Risk, Systems & Process Integration - Partner with Risk Management to lead model validation efforts, risk quantification, and adherence to internal governance standards.
- Oversee coordination with ETRM teams to ensure accurate booking and representation of structured transactions.
- Identify and implement improvements in commercial processes to enhance cross-functional coordination and execution.
Team Leadership & Development - Mentor and support development of analysts and senior analysts across technical, commercial, and professional skill areas.
- Provide guidance on prioritization, work quality, and problem-solving approaches across active deal workstreams.
- Contribute to team planning, resource allocation, and capability building aligned with the evolving commercial pipeline.
Business & Strategic Contribution - Develop a deep understanding of commercial drivers, market dynamics, and regulatory factors impacting AES Clean Energy's portfolio.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives related to commercial analytics, valuation methodology, and new product development (e.g., storage, hybrid, or emerging technologies).
- Act as a key point of contact within Structures & Pricing for cross-functional stakeholders on complex transactions and modeling topics.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- 5-8 years of relevant experience in energy, renewables, power markets, or related analytical roles.
- Significant experience (3-4 years) with renewable asset revenue modeling, including structured transactions, basis dynamics, and operational considerations.
- Strong expertise in U.S. power markets and market fundamentals (PJM, CAISO, ERCOT preferred).
- Advanced quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with ability to independently lead complex analyses.
- Proficiency in at least one programming or analytical language (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, VBA), with experience developing production-grade models.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex analytical concepts to senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications - Master's degree in a relevant technical or analytical discipline.
- Experience with battery energy storage system (BESS) optimization, hybrid systems, or emerging technologies (e.g., thermal integration).
- Experience leading or mentoring team members in a formal or informal capacity.
- Familiarity with commercial deal processes, structured transactions, and ETRM systems.
- Experience supporting or leading model governance, validation, or risk review processes.
