Full-time, Continuing Contract

Crofton House School is seeking an experienced elementary school educator to teach Spanish as an additional language in our Middle School (0.7 FTE) and to support the delivery of our bespoke Ivy Compass program for students in JK-Grade 7 (0.3 FTE).

You will be part of a collaborative teaching team supporting the positive growth and development of young girls in the Junior School. In addition to spending an engaging day with students who are genuinely interested in learning, thinking and playing, teachers are provided with dedicated work time as part of their daily schedule to plan and work collaboratively with others and to stay current in their field.

Responsibilities - Spanish Teacher (Grade 6-7)

  • Create a warm and inviting environment in which young students can learn
  • Teach Spanish as an additional language in our Junior School Middle School Program (Grade 6-7)
  • Implement the BC Curriculum for Spanish as a second language, with a focus on the application of the Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling approach
  • Integrate Hispanophone culture into lessons
  • Establish lively, engaging classes with dynamic and interactive lessons
  • Consider the diverse needs of students in your planning and teaching, offering a range of entry points and extensions to accommodate the needs of individual learners
  • Attend meetings to collaborate with teachers to ensure student needs are met
  • Utilize a variety of assessment techniques that allow for timely, transparent, and strength-based communication of learning
  • Integrate meaningful technology into student learning
  • In collaboration with colleagues, ensure continuity of language learning competencies in a vertical and horizontal manner across the Junior School
  • Provide supervision of students during non-instructional time
  • Establish a strong parent partnership
  • Engage in ongoing teacher professional growth


Responsibilities - Ivy Compass Teacher (JK-Grade 7)

  • Work closely with a full-time Junior School Ivy Compass Teacher to plan and deliver integrated learning experiences from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 in the following areas:
    • environmental education,
    • student leadership,
    • service learning
    • citizenship

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to source opportunities to integrate Ivy Compass learning in classrooms as an extension of learning.
  • Assist with the organization and delivery of Outdoor Education trips in Grades 3-7, including tasks such as logistical planning, administrative organization, and communication with families and third-party providers.
  • Support with developing and maintaining partnerships within our community to support Ivy Compass learning experiences.
  • Other responsibilities may be determined as this role evolves based on candidate's strengths


Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:

  • Essential: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteria
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Native-like Spanish language skills (oral and written)
  • Proficiency in French an asset
  • Understanding of how to support diverse learning styles at an elementary level
  • A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices outlined in the BC Ministry of Education documents
  • Experience and/or deep understanding of experiential learning
  • Experience in an independent school an asset
  • An awareness of the learning styles of girls
  • Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teaching
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, highly organized with attention to detail
  • Energy, commitment, and readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community


Employment and Application Details:

Classes begin in September 2026 following teacher orientation in late August 2026.

Employees of Crofton House School receive competitive compensation and support for professional, educational and leadership development.
