Teacher of Middle and Upper School English (Leave Replacement)

The Brearley School, an independent girls' school serving over 790 students K-12, welcomes candidates for a full-time leave replacement position as a Teacher of Middle and Upper School English from October 5 to December 18.

Responsibilities include:
  • teaching four courses in the English curriculum in grades six through twelve
  • participating in grade-level team planning meetings with English colleagues
  • implementing an inclusive, anti-bias, and anti-racist pedagogy
  • contributing to the life of the school and the students outside of the department


The ideal candidate will:
  • have three to five years of teaching experience
  • have an advanced degree in English or a related subject and competence in teaching literature of different time periods and genres
  • have expertise in one or more of the following: the literatures of the United States; diasporic or transnational literature; poetry; creative writing; the teaching of grammar
  • possess excellent oral and written communication skills
  • demonstrate a sincere interest in young people
  • have a commitment to teaching both Middle and Upper School students
  • have a commitment to helping students think independently and develop confidence in their own abilities
  • be collegial and enjoy working collaboratively on the curriculum
  • demonstrate cultural competency


Salary

In [redacted], the total salary for this position ranges from $75,000 to $156,900 depending on years of full-time K-12 teaching experience.
