Full Job Description
OPPORTUNITY OVERVIEW

ASO is adding a Tax Supervisor to its growing team. This role bridges the Senior Associate and Manager levels, with primary responsibility for reviewing the work of Associates and Senior Associates, running smaller engagements end-to-end, and serving as a key technical and client resource as the candidate develops toward a Manager role.

WORK ARRANGEMENT

This role is primarily in-office, with hybrid flexibility based on experience and performance. The firm's leadership values a collaborative, in-person culture while recognizing that strong performers benefit from the latitude to manage their schedules around client needs and personal commitments. This role can sit out of any of the 6 offices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Review tax returns prepared by Associates and Senior Associates across individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and nonprofit engagements
• Run smaller tax engagements end-to-end, including scoping, scheduling, execution, and client communication
• Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact on assigned engagements, building trusted relationships and resolving most technical questions directly
• Identify and research moderate to complex tax issues, including planning opportunities and exposure areas, and prepare clear written analysis
• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and real-time feedback to 2-4 staff members, helping accelerate their technical and professional growth
• Partner with Managers and Partners on engagement planning, budgeting, and risk assessment
• Stay current on federal and state legislative changes and assess their impact on client engagements
• Contribute to process improvement, technology adoption, and quality initiatives within the tax practice
• Support business development efforts as appropriate, including identifying expanded service opportunities within the existing client base

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Active CPA license (required)
• 5-7 years of progressive public accounting experience with a broad tax background
• Strong technical knowledge across individual, corporate, partnership, trust, and nonprofit tax
• Demonstrated experience reviewing the work of less experienced staff and providing developmental feedback
• Excellent client-facing communication skills and the judgment to know when to escalate to a Manager or Partner
• Track record of managing multiple concurrent engagements and meeting deadlines without sacrificing quality
• Prior experience at a firm of meaningful scale and complexity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with CCH tax software environment (or demonstrated ability to learn new platforms quickly)
• Demonstrated readiness to take on increasing supervisory and client management responsibility
• Familiarity with advisory services beyond compliance work
• Experience contributing to process or technology improvements within a tax practice

WHAT ASO OFFERS
• A clear progression path toward Manager and Senior Manager roles, with active investment from firm leadership in your development
• Real ownership of engagements and client relationships rather than narrow technical specialization
• Direct exposure to firm leadership and meaningful input into how the practice grows and operates
• A trust-based, output-driven culture where leadership measures results, not keystrokes. Strong performers are given real autonomy and flexibility
• Hybrid work schedule with a flexible offseason schedule
• Dress for Your Day policy
• Competitive PTO package plus holidays, with additional time off negotiable outside of busy season
• Health and dental insurance
• Employer 401(k) match
• Performance-based bonus opportunity
• A collaborative, family-friendly environment that values work-life balance without sacrificing professional standards

COMPENSATION & HOURS

Compensation is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and the value the candidate brings to the practice. The firm offers a competitive base salary, performance-based bonus structure, employer 401(k) match, and comprehensive benefits. Full details will be discussed during the interview process.

Expected hours include a 50 to 60-hour work week during busy season, with a flexible schedule during the offseason.
