Job Summary:

The Tax Managing Director, Global Tax Outsourcing will be a senior member of the GTO team, responsible for building strong personal client relationships, directing all project services delivered, leading specific strategic focus, managing people and supporting the Partners with business development and practice management. They will also be responsible for managing risk at an operational level. Additionally, the GTO Managing Director is a critical part of the office's / region's Tax Services leadership team and in this capacity will act as source for guidance on international tax questions and issues and have a proven track record as a problem solver.

Job Duties:

Tax Consulting
  • Develops, recommends and implements practical international tax consulting - ideas related to client situations
  • Identifies and resolves complex taxation issues by applying multiple tax functional specialties
  • Communicates complex technical matters to clients and other appropriate audiences to ensure relevant issues are understood and resolved, as needed

Tax Specialization
  • Builds and manages at a global strategic level, strong relationships with clients through all manner of communication inclusive of regular visits to client sites, and, as needed, to BDO regional offices/team sites
  • Works with the team on timely and efficient establishment and maintenance of client account plans and ensures that action steps are implemented to achieve results in client satisfaction, retention and expansion of services or countries
  • Consistently manages time, budgets and resources for all projects ensuring delivery dates, identification and resolution of issues, adherence / mindfulness of project scope and the impacts of changes
  • Acts as a client advocate and strategic resource for overall client issues in the areas of billing, legal, policy, country tax issues, payroll management operations, and systems
  • Manages projects across all lines of business. Including but not limited to: financial projects, inter-country projects, etc.
  • Continues to develop an in-depth understanding of the technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding international tax
  • Manages international tax services provided to assigned clients, including assessment of appropriate pricing structure for services
  • Identifies opportunities for tax alerts in areas of specialty and collaborates with BDO Global and/or National Tax Office on drafting of those alerts

Marketing and Business Development
  • Manages Requests for Proposals (RFP), for account renegotiations, including fee structure and presentation
  • Exhibits thought leadership in a specialized area within international tax
  • Recognized as industry group go-to person in international tax
  • Assists with rollout of major change initiatives
  • Works with Tax Services and International Tax Partners, Local Office Managing Partner and local and regional Business Development Managers to develop and execute an effective marketing plan
  • Builds effective go-to-market strategies with Assurance Partners

Research
  • Identifies trends, best practices, and opportunities for tax consulting, written analysis and recommendations for cost effective client solutions
  • Identifies complex situations when research is necessary providing an outline of the issue(s) and the appropriate source of research to be conducted
  • Analyzes researched facts and the sources utilized prior to composing a detailed report of the research findings

Tax Compliance
  • Manages client engagements
  • Conducts detailed review of international tax aspects of U.S. tax reporting and other client supplied data and identifies complex and advanced issues throughout the engagement
  • Leverages compliance role to identify additional tax issues and opportunities
  • Demonstrates overall client ownership and ensures the highest standards in others
  • Proactively takes potentially valuable ideas to the client
  • Acts as a collaborative client manager and applies a managed clients' approach
  • Advocates the implementation and use of consistent working practices and methodologies to ensure a consistent client experience with all global teams
  • Acts as a client advocate and strategic resource for overall client issues in the areas of billing, legal, policy, country tax issues, tools and systems
  • Works with BDO Partner to prepare year end client review and analysis as well as monthly reports and quarterly reviews as required
  • Develops innovative solutions to the commercial challenges of the client
  • Communicates effectively to ensure client expectations are managed appropriately
  • Develops processes and procedures within the team and region which maximize productivity, ensure clear communication and efficiency and effect consistent service delivery
  • Works with the CTS/ITS/Assurance and GTO teams on the execution plan for new accounts ensuring that communication bridges, policies and procedures and processes are in place and followed
  • Applies standards, Firm policies and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements
  • Manages Risk & Compliance in line with BDO USA & Client policies. Ensures team compliance with BDO standards, client policy, monitors data accuracy and integrity
  • Reviews international aspects of tax provisions including coordination of BDO colleagues in non-U.S. jurisdictions
  • Maintains highest level of confidentiality and discretion
  • Undertakes other tasks and special projects as required

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervises the day-to-day workload of GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns on assigned engagements and reviews work product and ensures their technical development
  • Delivers periodic performance feedback and completes performance evaluations for GTO Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns
  • Acts as mentor to GTO Managers, Senior Associates and Associates and Interns, as appropriate


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree, required;
  • Focus in Accounting, Computer Information Systems, Economics, or Finance, preferred
  • MST/MBT, preferred

Experience:
  • Ten (10) or more years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree (LLM) program, required
  • Experience in international tax, required
  • Negotiation experience, required
  • Experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis, required

License/Certifications:
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent ("EA") (or the equivalent of one of these designations), preferred

Software:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferred
  • Working experience with Smartsheet, preferred
  • Experience utilizing BNA, CCH and/or other search engines,preferred

Language:
  • Proficiency in more than one language, preferred

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $157,500 - $420,000
Maryland Range: $157,500 - $420,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $157,500 - $420,000
Washington DC Range: $157,500 - $420,000
