As a Tax Manager within Caterpillar's Global Tax - Reporting & Analysis organization, you will be responsible for aspects of the U.S. Consolidated Federal Income Tax Return with a focus on U.S federal activities. This role is responsible for coordinating critical compliance, provision, and reporting activities while ensuring complex tax deliverables are completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with established controls and governance requirements.

You will be a process leader for U.S. federal compliance, provision, and estimate processes, partnering with the business, technical specialists, and leadership to coordinate activities supporting quarterly financial reporting and annual compliance obligations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring tax processes run smoothly while proactively coordinating timelines, anticipating and resolving challenges, and improving efficiency across the organization.

The successful candidate will combine strong U.S. Federal income tax expertise with exceptional organization, process leadership, and problem-solving skills. They will be able to connect information across multiple stakeholders, anticipate questions and challenges before they arise, and help others navigate complex tax matters with confidence.

What You Will Do

U.S. Federal Tax Compliance & Reporting

  • Lead preparation of U.S. Federal income tax compliance activities, including pro-forma 1120 returns and other book-to-tax adjustments, consolidated return computations, and Corporate Alternative Minimum Tax calculations.
  • Lead federal quarterly tax estimate and provision processes with comprehensive analysis and coordination of tax data across the enterprise.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and technical specialists to ensure consistent application of tax regulations and reporting requirements.

Process Leadership & Execution

  • Serve as the process lead for U.S. Federal compliance and reporting activities, ensuring critical deliverables are completed timely with high quality.
  • Coordinate annual compliance and quarterly reporting timelines while ensuring stakeholders remain aligned and informed.
  • Anticipate potential challenges, identify dependencies, and proactively drive solutions before deadlines are impacted.
  • Monitor process performance and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen execution.

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives focused on  process improvements, implementation of controls, or other planning initiatives.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing efficiency, reducing manual effort, and improving reporting quality.
  • Support implementation of new technologies, automation tools, and process improvements within the tax organization.

Stakeholder Partnership

  • Collaborate with tax professionals, business partners, and leadership to ensure successful execution of tax activities.
  • Translate complex tax matters into clear, actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicate challenges and opportunities to leadership while driving alignment across multiple teams.
  • Analyze and develop responses to support tax authority inquiries.

U.S. Federal Income Tax Expertise

  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal income tax compliance, provision, and reporting activities.
  • Strong understanding of federal tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Ability to analyze complex tax matters and apply technical guidance effectively.

What Will Set You Apart

  • Experience supporting U.S. Federal income tax compliance for a large multinational corporation.
  • Experience with Corptax software.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot.
  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Power Platform tools (Power BI, Power Query, etc.).
  • Experience implementing process improvements, automated solutions, and enhanced control environments.
  • Experience supporting tax authority audits.

Summary Pay Range:

$128,470.00 - $192,710.00
