Project Overview:

Bechtel Energy is currently planning and executing a large number of lump sum self-perform direct hire LNG projects throughout the US Gulf Coast. In addition to LNG tanks, other Field Erected Tanks (FET) are included in projects' scope. This has also created a demand for Tanks Civil Field Engineer support across the Energy Business Line. As the #1 LNG EPC contractor by installed capacity, Bechtel has the capability to successfully deliver a broad range of LNG projects through our integrated EPC self-perform model, strategic partnerships, and proven experience in LNG project delivery. Job Summary:

  • In this role, you will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge.
  • Mechanical work scope on this assignment consists of the erection of a full containment LNG tank.
  • Provide technical assistance and support to Tank Superintendents responsible for supervising and directing operations within the tanks discipline.
  • Ensures LNG tank construction performance and other FET construction performance is following design documents and specifications by monitoring in-process construction and performing other quality control inspection and testing.
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience of construction methods of full containment LNG tank construction which includes knowledge of carbon steel, aluminum, and 9% Ni plate erection and welding, roof construction, air raise and hydrotesting.
  • Furthermore, knowledge of concrete construction for outside containment and management of interfaces between the concrete and steel teams.
  • Your recommendations will ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Develops projections and schedules for workforce, material, and equipment requirements
  • Coordinates the construction operations impact on external interfaces to ensure they coincide with the overall established schedules.
  • Enforces policies, procedures and related work rules as established by field construction management.
  • Supports Construction Mechanical Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents
  • Maintain project document control and ensure all work activities are executed using the latest versions of relevant documents
  • Work with the discipline superintendents to develop detailed, integrated installation plans for complex, cross discipline installations
  • Work with Area superintendent to ensure that quantities are reported, verified and submitted for all commodities each week
  • Assist with the development and implementation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP's)
  • Perform quality control inspections of completed work and generate associated documentation
  • Ensure that all project quality requirements are understood and adhered to
  • Liaise with the design engineering group and provide support to resolve design and constructability issues
  • Work with supervision to perform front-end work package scoping
  • Develop construction progress reports and quantity forecasts
  • Complete required material requisitions to ensure that material deliveries support scheduled activities and complete material receipt inspections
  • Assist in the preparation and updating of construction schedules
  • Ensure correct preparation of applicable as-built documents and inspections required by the contract
  • Perform system/area turnovers


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and 8-10 years of relevant LNG tank experience or 12-15 years of relevant LNG tank work experience


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with the construction of full containment LNG tanks.
  • Experience with Bechtel's integrated concrete and steel liner method of constructing LNG tanks containment walls.
  • Experience with the construction of Field Erected tanks.
  • Experience with FERC permitting requirements for LNG tanks and Field Erected Tanks.
  • Technical knowledge of all phases of construction engineering relating to a single discipline interfacing with all areas, or in a multi-discipline position assigned to a single area.
  • Knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Familiar with Bechtel's Business Ethics handbook and policies.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the application and requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health (ES&H) Handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to area of responsibility.
  • Ability to work with multi-national employees and across different languages.
  • Spanish speak skills advantageous
  • Knowledge of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.


Additional Information: Work requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
