We are looking for a Geochemist or Biochemist that will provide technical expertise to support tailings and closure planning activities and surface and ground water monitoring for the Horizon Oil Sands site. You will report to the supervisor of Tailing Research and Reporting where you will provide technical oversight of geochemistry-related research including data management and analytics; design and manage field monitoring programs to support mine, tailings and closure plan optimizations and commitments.

Key Accountabilities:- Interface and communicate with multi-discipline teams of engineers, scientists and operations teams in Mining, Bitumen Production, Environmental Operations, Regulatory, and Stakeholder Relations teams
- Provide technical input for multi-disciplinary technical reports, regulatory submissions and applications
- Provide oversight and project management for tailings research and/or field monitoring studies, including scope development, resultant data management and analytics, budget and schedules. Field presence is required for this position to support all field monitoring programs
- Provide reviews of technical reports, plans and regulatory submissions
- Provide mentorship to students and engineers-in-training
- Complete work in accordance with the established safe work practices and procedures, Horizon Health Safety, & Environment Reference Manual, Occupations Health and Safety Regulations, and other applicable regulations
What You Bring to the Role:- Degree in Geochemistry, Biogeochemistry, Process or Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 10 - 15 years' experience in related fields
- Registered as a professional with APEGA (or equivalent provincial association), and in good standing
- Experience with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) required and experience with R and ArcGIS preferred
- Knowledge of Alberta oil sands tailings regulatory environment is an asset
