The Opportunity:

We9re seeking a Tailings Process Engineer to join our Albian Tailings Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in a mining environment who enjoys delivering safe, reliable, operable, and fit-for-purpose solutions through strong collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

You will apply technical capability in fluid transport, including Newtonian and non-Newtonian slurry systems, on-shore and on-pond pumping, dredging, and tailings/water management. You must be comfortable maintaining a strong field presence, validating system conditions, and ensuring that engineering solutions work in the field.
  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Work schedule: 5 x 2, 8-hour shifts (Monday - Friday)

Key Accountabilities:
  • Apply engineering principles to assess, design, monitor and optimize fluid transport systems, improving safety, and efficiency
  • Conduct and review hydraulic analyses, mass balance assessments, and process calculations for slurry and water systems, producing technical reports and recommendations that consideration of risk, economic factors, operability and maintainability
  • Work closely with various engineering disciplines, vendors, EPCs, operations, maintenance, and project teams to address engineering challenges and drive continuous improvement
  • Conduct field reviews including walk-downs and validation and as-building of existing systems
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory bodies and apply relevant industry codes and standards aligned with the risk of the design

What You Bring to the Role:
  • 8+ years of related industry experience, previous experience in oil sands tailings is preferred
  • Bachelors degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • Registered with APEGA (P.Eng. preferred)
  • A working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and engineering best practices
  • Experience with:
    • Full pipe and open channel flow hydraulics using Newtonian and non-Newtonian with slurries
    • Process engineering modeling software AFT Fathom and SRC Turbulent and Bingham fluid models
    • Vacuum breaker, pressure relief sizing and piping design with HDPE piping
    • Design documentation (eg P&IDs, PFDs, LDTs, datasheets, functional descriptions or control philosophies, plan and profiles etc)
    • Transient analysis is considered an asset
    • Excel script or VBA macro programming experience is considered an asset
