The Opportunity:

Responsible for the administration, operation, troubleshooting, and security of IT infrastructure supporting containerized applications. This includes container runtimes, orchestration platforms, cluster networking, persistent storage, and related security controls. Uses systems analysis techniques to diagnose and resolve issues affecting containerized workloads, nodes, storage, and connectivity, ensuring availability, performance, and integrity of the environment. Applies security patches, OS and Kubernetes upgrades, and container image updates. Supports new container-platform infrastructure projects and maintains accurate configuration documentation for assigned systems.

Responsibilities:

The Systems Administrator provides infrastructure and platform support for containerized applications. Responsibilities include identification of problems in the container environment, root-cause diagnosis (pod/node failures, resource constraints, CNI/overlay networking issues, persistent volume problems, control-plane issues), and development of corrective action plans.

  • Corrective maintenance: Isolate and restore failed containerized services, nodes, or cluster components.

  • Perfective maintenance: Optimize cluster performance, resource allocation, autoscaling, and observability.

  • Adaptive maintenance: Update configurations, perform version upgrades, adapt to new security or infrastructure requirements, and support platform changes while preserving workload functionality.

  • Manage container lifecycle operations (image management, deployments, rollouts, scaling) and the underlying container-runtime infrastructure.

  • Create and maintain as-is documentation, including high-level architecture diagrams of the containerized environment (clusters, namespaces, workloads, services, ingress, storage classes, networking, and integration points) and associated system requirements.

  • Support maintenance of active security authorizations (A&A) and Body of Evidence (BoE) artifacts (POAMs, control implementations, test plans). Implement applicable STIGs, CIS Kubernetes Benchmarks, vendor hardening guides for container platforms, and ensure timely patching of nodes, container images, and related components. Integrate with enterprise security services (ESS) and use required tools (XACTA 360, Service+, CPT, SWAP, etc.).

  • Support build, test, and deployment of container images, Helm charts manifests, and infrastructure configurations via enterprise, government-managed CI/CD pipelines (where applicable). Focus is on platform operations, image/registry management, and orchestration—not application code develop

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical/scientific discipline.

  • Minimum of six (6) years of system administration experience. Experience with container technologies (Docker/container, Kubernetes) and preferably AWS (EKS or equivalent) or comparable cloud/on-premises container platforms.
