Major Job Responsibilities- EDS (Electrical Distribution System) systems engineering role on Ford Vehicle program within the Signal & Power Solutions business segment.
- Wire spec/size selection, inline pinouts, power distribution, grounding, device connectors and pinouts
- Communicate with ECAD Wire spec/size selection, inline pinouts, power distribution, grounding, device connectors, pinouts, circuitry option tagging and harness complexity with ECAD to develop physical schematics for all vehicle build events. Work with ECAD and Design Release Engineers to confirm component placement harness routing and content is accurate on schematics. Complete match checks and compare reports for every print release to confirm accuracy for all build events.
- Assess all in-lines for compliance to inline-specific SDS requirements
- Create and develop (Design Intent Schematics) base on the logical schematics and Device Transmittal information.
- Develop CAN subsystem diagrams to ensure; CAN subsystems are continuous, follow Ford EY-0088 and CAN subsystems optimized based on complexity.
- Work with validation engineering to develop eFVDS requirements per Ford guidelines for each vehicle development milestone (i.e. DCV, TT, PP, etc.).
- Evaluate ECAR matrix to determine if all connectors are on the approved or green list for Ford.
- Input device transmittal information from Ford into Aptiv DTS to allow automated checks
- Use design rules check (DRC's) to verify circuit attributes, connector P/N's, cavity restrictions and in-line mating connectors using Zuken E3.
- Validate proposed/determined wire gauges, fuse selection, relay selection and terminals through CAE Voltage Drop requirement testing, Short circuit testing and Environmental requirement testing using Saber simulation.
- Implement Engineering Change Request and document them accordingly. Validate physical changes through DSI checking and Saber Simulation if changes affect loads, fusing or grounding.
- Circuitry option tagging for wire harness complexity. This requires analyzing and Implementing information from the Product Direction Letter (PDL), output from the Ford Product Design Office (PDO) and utilizing WGO to create a WGO Dataset, Apply the rules, & Analyze the data.
- Work with design release engineers to package and route harnesses to reduce cost and wiring length
- Interface with Ford Engineering team, act as EDS Systems Engineering point of contact for Aptiv
- Meetings with customer to understand, communicate, and review system designs.
- Support and attend EDS Technical design Reviews at each milestone.
- Maintains continuous communication with key contact persons related to the job function and provides timely feedback on status to the direct superior.
- Participates productively in all Continuous Improvement activities. Ensures that all individual and team deliverables are performed and goals are attained.
- Participate in cross-functional compatibility design reviews to improve automotive schematic stability and accuracy before release.
- Verify compliance to Ford EDS-SDS customer requirements using QOD checklist.
- Support for vehicle builds at customer vehicle assembly plants
- Diagnose/troubleshoot wiring harnesses during all vehicle development build phases.
- Provide rework instructions to Ford for any necessary reworks at all build phases.
- Support any wiring reworks needed during the vehicle development process.
- Provide 5D/8D to OEM to identify issue, containment, root cause, corrective actions, work plan and preventative measures for any quality issues that require changes.
- Performs DFMEA and help create TVM proposals for wiring cost saving and stability (Wire downsizing, wire types change, wire material change and Integrate harnesses if possible) then validate if it passes OEM's requirements.
- Confront and solve performance/operational issues to improve development efficiency
- Oversee project management process and delivery timelines to keep projects on schedule
- Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility
