The Systems Engineer V-PE (Team Manager) is responsible for serving as a senior technical project engineering lead while providing people leadership for an engineering team. The role leads complex defense and aerospace programs, providing technical direction, programmatic oversight, systems engineering execution, and team development.
The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Controllable Solid Propulsion department based in Folsom, CA. This role is hybrid or remote and can be based in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA or Remote.
In this role, the essential functions are:- Serve as chief project engineer or senior technical lead for large, multi-phase, or multi-contract defense and aerospace programs.
- Define and guide system architecture, integration, and verification strategies aligned with customer and mission objectives.
- Oversee engineering execution across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and major subcontractors, ensuring technical, cost, and schedule compliance.
- Lead technical baseline definition, configuration management, system integration planning, and major design and integration reviews.
- Serve as a primary engineering interface to executive management and Department of Defense customers, supporting technical interchange meetings and milestone reviews.
- Manage technical deliverables including Statements of Work, subcontractor deliverables, and supplier design inputs, while supporting proposal development, cost estimation, and new business capture.
- Develop and implement risk and opportunity management approaches and drive engineering process improvements, knowledge management, and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Ten (10) years of project engineering experience.
- Expertise in system integration, verification planning, and risk-based engineering approaches.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical execution across multidisciplinary engineering teams, programs, and major subcontractors.
- Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage executive and customer audiences.
- Proficiency with engineering management and project planning tools such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop team members in a professional engineering environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
Preferred Qualifications- Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System leadership experience.
- Functional management of small, highly technical teams.
Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements- Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
- Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Government export control requirements, including ITAR/EAR eligibility, as applicable.
The good faith base salary rangefor this role is $153,615 - $199,400 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
