The MSAD Systems Engineer V (Team Manager) is responsible for serving as a senior technical lead in Modeling, Simulation, and Algorithm Design (MSAD) Systems while providing people leadership for an engineering team. The role supports propulsion and aerospace programs through high-fidelity modeling, algorithm development, simulation architecture, and system-level performance assessment.

The position reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Controllable Solid Propulsion department based in Folsom, CA. This role is hybrid or remote and can be based in Folsom, CA, Reno, NV, Huntsville, AL, Long Beach, CA or Remote.

In this role, the essential functions are:

• Develop high-fidelity models and control algorithms for propulsion, flight control, and guidance subsystems.
• Develop system simulation architectures that support design iteration, verification, and validation.
• Perform controllability studies, define control system topologies, and support gain-tuning methodologies across system architectures.
• Support performance engineering through requirement derivation, margin analysis, performance trade studies, and Monte Carlo, sensitivity, and parametric analyses.
• Apply physics-based modeling to mechanical, thermal, aerodynamic, ballistics, propulsion, and actuation systems.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary GNC, software, systems, and test teams to integrate modeling products and participate in customer engagements and technical reviews.
• Author and review technical documentation and ensure simulation models meet requirements for verification, validation, traceability, and configuration control.
• Mentor engineers and support technical trade studies, concept maturation, and modeling and controls peer reviews.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline from an accredited college/university. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
2. Ten (10) years of modeling, simulation, and algorithm design experience.
3. Demonstrated expertise in systems engineering, modeling and simulation, control systems, or a closely related technical discipline.
4. Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in highly collaborative multidisciplinary environments.
5. Experience leading and managing small technical teams and developing team members.
6. Demonstrated ability to take on increasing technical responsibility and work independently on fast-paced programs.
7. Experience with MATLAB and MATLAB Simulink programming, or similar tools.
8. Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Controllable Solid Rocket Propulsion System performance modeling experience.
• Functional management of small, highly technical teams.

Travel, Physical, and/or Government Mandated Requirements:

• Ability to travel approximately 10% of the time.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level.
• Applicants must meet applicable U.S. Government export control requirements, including ITAR/EAR eligibility, as applicable.

The good faith base salary rangefor this role is $153,615 - $199,400 at the time of this posting. Where you fall within the range depends on your experience, skills, and location. This range reflects base salary only and does not include benefits or bonus/incentive. This range may be adjusted in the future.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
