Full Job Description
The Systems Engineer II plays a critical role in the planning, development, integration, and test of complex systems, ensuring that technical, performance, safety, and customer requirements are understood and met throughout the project life cycle. Building on foundational experience, this role requires the ability to work with moderate supervision and increased independence, bridging the gap between early-career engineers and advanced technical leadership.

Overall Responsibility:
The primary responsibility of the Systems Engineer II is to serve as both an effective contributor and occasional leader within cross-functional teams, integrating software, hardware, and mechanical domains. This role requires active participation in capturing, analyzing, and managing requirements, alongside the practical application of systems engineering best practices in line with INCOSE guidance. The Systems Engineer II is expected to liaise across disciplines, clarify design intent, and anticipate integration challenges, ensuring robust and reliable solutions that meet client and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the full system development lifecycle-including requirements elicitation, system architecture, detailed design, integration, verification, and validation of hardware and software systems.
  • Translate customer and stakeholder requirements into actionable tasks for various technical teams, providing clear documentation and technical artifacts.
  • Work collaboratively with mechanical, software, electrical, and test teams to ensure consistent interpretation and fulfillment of system-level requirements.
  • Support the creation and review of engineering analyses, risk assessments, and trade studies, contributing to critical design decisions.
  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, customer presentations, and system overviews with clarity, providing context for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Actively contribute to process improvements, technical reviews, and the mentoring of Systems Engineer I staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Build increasing familiarity with INCOSE systems engineering standards, supporting compliance in project work, and advancing toward recognized proficiency in one or more domains.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, aerospace, electrical, or systems engineering (or related technical field), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Typically requires 2-7 years of experience working on multidisciplinary engineering projects, with a focus on systems integration, requirements management, and technical problem-solving.
  • Fundamental knowledge and application of INCOSE systems engineering principles, with demonstrable experience in requirements capture, traceability, and interface definition.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with internal development teams and external stakeholders.
  • U.S. citizenship may be required due to contract obligations.

Physical and Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and participate in regular communications with remote and local teams.
  • Occasional travel may be required according to project needs.
