Position Summary Provide technical assistance and support for strategic, inter-departmental City computer operating systems and related system software and hardware components including cloud-based and on-premise systems; Perform a variety of complex systems analysis duties in the installation, testing, maintenance and support of central computer hardware and system software including emerging technologies and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility. Employees at this level may also assume Enterprise System Architecture responsibilities and/or major project management responsibilities. The position manages both Windows Server and Linux server environments (Oracle Linux and RHEL), administers Oracle OCI and AWS gateway cloud services, and supports Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization infrastructure.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong proficiency in PowerShell scripting, Python scripting, Microsoft 365 administration, and Linux shell scripting (bash/Python), as all Linux servers are managed primarily through scripts.

- Provide advanced technical assistance and support for strategic City computer systems/servers and related system software and hardware components.
- Perform a variety of complex systems analysis and programming duties in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of information systems and supporting computer hardware and software.
- Evaluate, install, test, and implement new central hardware, operating systems or systems software packages; install new versions, releases or maintenance levels of existing operating systems and related components.
- Detect, isolate and resolve computer system problems utilizing vendor coordination and support as needed and implement appropriate bypasses or other resolutions.
- Participate in system administration activities including setting up and monitoring backup processes, adding new users, modifying user/group profiles, monitoring and tuning system/server resources.
- Provide technical direction to members of the systems programming staff and members of Information Technology Projects.
- Coordinate technical activities among the systems programming staff and with other Information Technology entities within City government and external agencies.
SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: - Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of information systems.
- May act in the role of management reporting to the Department Director from time to time.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in information systems, or computer science;
andTwo (2) years experience in systems programming or system administration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's license, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.
Working Conditions Environmental:Office and computer room environment; exposure to computer screens.
Physical:Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for prolonged sitting and extensive use of computer keyboard; may load, unload, and operate a server lift device.
