Systems Engineer / Architect

Location: Manassas, VA
Active Secret Clearance required
Position Overview

We are seeking a Systems Engineer / Architect to support the Integrated Submarine Imaging Systems Program. This mission-critical platform delivers all-weather visual, electronic search, and digital imaging capabilities across multiple classes of U.S. Navy submarines.

In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to define requirements, shape system architecture, manage interfaces, support implementation efforts, and establish verification and validation strategies for new and upgraded hardware and software baselines. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, systems thinking, and the ability to turn complex requirements into practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with multidisciplinary teams to identify, evaluate, and implement technical solutions for complex system challenges
  • Support requirements analysis, architecture development, and systems engineering activities across the program lifecycle
  • Translate customer and mission needs into hardware and software design requirements
  • Develop and maintain key engineering artifacts including requirements documents, design specifications, interface control documents, and software design materials
  • Create and maintain system models using tools such as Cameo or comparable MBSE platforms
  • Participate in Agile development processes, including technical spikes, solution assessments, and iterative planning
  • Conduct trade studies, technology evaluations, and modernization assessments for future capabilities
  • Plan and support technical milestone reviews ranging from intermediate design reviews through final design reviews
  • Assist with verification, validation, and system integration planning for new releases and enhancements
  • Analyze emerging technologies, tools, and hardware products to guide future engineering direction
Required Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a Systems Engineer or Systems Architect role
  • Background supporting systems that include custom software or integrated hardware/software solutions
  • Experience with requirements development, requirements management, and architecture definition
  • Experience conducting trade studies and evaluating technical alternatives
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting undersea, maritime, or defense-related systems programs
  • Familiarity with Agile tools such as JIRA, GitLab, Redmine, and Confluence
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar engineering/scientific analysis tools
  • Scripting experience with Python or other automation languages
  • Understanding of DevOps pipelines and modern software delivery processes
  • Exposure to Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies
Education & Additional Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with close attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt quickly, and work effectively in dynamic environments
  • Self-motivated team player with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
