Position Description

The IT Systems Architect performs highly complex (senior-level) data analysis and system architecture work. Determines physical system design and defines technical platforms using existing technology and standards. Evaluates and selects from existing and emerging technologies to best fit the agency and project needs. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Determines physical system design by reviewing existing and emerging technologies.
  • Provide detail consultation for application and infrastructure development; and business process operations.
  • Interprets complex requirements from the user community to develop and deliver sound functional requirements, designs, and solutions that are consistent with internal customer expectations and executive objectives. Develop test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects.
  • Provide technical support and consultation for system design and operational issues. Performs daily system checks, identify potential issues, and provide resolution.
  • Identify high-level solutions for business applications, systems, portfolios, infrastructures, and enterprise. Develop, build and implement IT services and solutions, design and manage communications, security, networking, storage, data protection, etc.
  • Researches, manages implementation of alternative technical solutions of new technologies.
  • Performs root cause analyses related to information issues and non-conformance to published data standards based on review of technical metadata of various source systems; selects data management tools and develops solutions which resolve or prevent those issues from reoccurring.
  • May supervise the work of others; performs related work as assigned.

Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field from an accredited college of university: professional experience can be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required college education.
  • Experience in enterprise data architecture and/or information architecture work.
  • IT Systems Architect I - 5 Years of Experience
  • IT Systems Architect II - 8+ Years of Experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of master data, metadata, reference data, data warehousing, and business intelligence principles and processes, including technical architecture; of enterprise information management processes and methodologies, relational database management systems, enterprise networks, Cyber Security, and business intelligence and business analytics tools; of local, state, and federal laws and regulations relevant to data management and data governance; of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems; of technology across all network layers and computer platforms; and of operational support of networks, operating systems, Internet technologies, databases, and security applications.
  • Skill in the use of applicable software, and in project management and system development life-cycle concepts.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, and to supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

Physical Demands:

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.

General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours Work:
This is a full time position. Typical days of work are Monday-Friday. Hours may vary based on business needs of the department including weekends.
Work Environment:
There are no major sources of discomfort. A normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions is provided.
Reporting Relations:

  • Reports To Position: May report to a manager or a Lead.
  • Supervises Positions: May supervise two to six personnel.


Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
