Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Virtualization Administrator.

 

As a Virtualization Administrator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing the virtual infrastructure that supports the mission-critical operations of the GCC. You will administer, develop, test, implement, and maintain the virtual operating environment and its related software. This role involves establishing standards for between hardware and software, troubleshooting complex system and networking problems, and recommending upgrades based on performance data. Your work will directly impact the stability, security, and efficiency of our virtualized systems. This position differs from an Operating Systems Programmer as it does not involve altering the operating system's software code.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Design and Implementation:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain VMware ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, and virtual machines across multiple sites.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement integrated infrastructure solutions that align with command requirements.
  • Implement and manage VMware networking components, including distributed switches and VLANs.
  • Schedule, plan, and perform system upgrades, coordinating the transition from test to production environments.

System Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Monitor and optimize virtual infrastructure performance, resource utilization, and system availability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to VMware technologies, including performance bottlenecks and connectivity problems, to ensure minimal downtime.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third-party providers for advanced troubleshooting and issue resolution.
  • Provide technical support for system users.

Security and Recovery:

  • Implement and manage comprehensive backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtual machines and infrastructure components.
  • Ensure the virtual environment is compliant with DoD security policies, regulations, and best practices by implementing and maintaining STIGs.
  • Support projects aimed at enhancing the security, efficiency, or capability of the virtualized environment.

 

Documentation and Mentorship:

  • Develop and maintain clear, detailed documentation for virtualization architecture, configurations, and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend new VMware technologies and solutions to enhance system performance and efficiency. Mentor junior administrators to enhance the team's overall expertise in virtualization technologies.

  • Proven experience as a Virtualization Administrator, with a strong focus on VMware technologies.
  • Knowledge of VMware ESXi, vCenter Server, distributed switches, and related components.
  • Demonstrated ability in performance monitoring, resource optimization, and troubleshooting within a virtual environment.
  • Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized systems.
  • Familiarity with DoD security requirements, including the implementation of STIGs.
Target Salary Range$66,000 - $106,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
