JOB SUMMARY - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES

The System Administrator V serves as a senior technical resource responsible not only for administration of enterprise systems, but also for the design, architecture, deployment, and sustainment of new infrastructure and network environments.

Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:
  • Perform daily operational support for enterprise operating systems, including Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux, ensuring system security, access control, configuration management, backup, recovery, and overall system reliability
  • Evaluate, design, install, configure, and maintain enterprise workstation, server, virtualization, storage, and network infrastructure to support secure, scalable, and resilient operations
  • Architect, design, implement, and modernize new and existing network and server environments, including compute, storage, virtualization, switching, firewalling, IP schema, VLANs, routing, segmentation, redundancy, and secure connectivity
  • Lead infrastructure buildout activities, including equipment planning, rack layout, power coordination, backup integration, monitoring implementation, and operational turnover
  • Manage and administer VMware virtualization technologies, including ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, and VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure, while maintaining performance, scalability, high availability, and integration with enterprise systems
  • Manage and administer storage solutions, including NAS and SAN systems, while ensuring optimal performance, capacity, availability, and data protection
  • Monitor system and local area network performance, analyze system, security, and application logs, and troubleshoot complex issues across operating systems, servers, storage, virtualization, and network infrastructure using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques
  • Develop implementation plans, technical designs, and supporting documentation for infrastructure deployments, upgrades, migrations, refreshes, and lifecycle replacement efforts across development, test, and production environments
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and integrate new hardware, software, and data center technologies with minimal disruption to existing operations, while supporting future growth and process improvement
  • Organize and secure directory structures and support department document management, configuration management, release procedures, and associated databases, including training staff on proper use and compliance
  • Design hardware requirements and maintain equipment accountability records, custodial receipt listings, configuration baselines, and system identification logs
  • Serve as the point of contact for problem reporting, version updates, support contract monitoring, and operational status reporting, ensuring timely issue resolution and effective communication with stakeholders
  • Develop and implement security protocols and procedures aligned with Security+ principles and organizational cybersecurity requirements to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems and data
  • Support backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations planning to maintain system resiliency and mission readiness
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams and provide technical guidance, expertise, and mentorship to ensure infrastructure and administrative activities align with organizational goals, mission requirements, and technical standards
  • Use established policies, procedures, and subject matter expertise to complete complex assignments requiring sound judgment, originality, and independent contribution under minimal supervision
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in system administration, network administration, virtualization, storage, and cybersecurity, applying knowledge to continuously improve enterprise operations
  • Must be able to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification within the first 180 days of employment
  • Other duties as required


REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCE

A bachelor's degree in associated discipline from an accredited academic institution or equivalent experience through technical training, completion of a recognized certification program, or experience. Requires at least 12 years of experience in computer system related areas of expertise and must possess and apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in computer science, graphics, and information systems.

In addition, a Systems Administrator V must possess the following qualifications:
  • Must have specific experience in the maintenance of Operating Systems and support applications, in a centralized and distributed server environment
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
  • Must possess valid, state-issued driver's license
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.


SALARY
The expected salary range for this position is $120,000 to $172,000 annually.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Will be asked to make functional the initiatives established by management and will coordinate with other organizations as affected by upgrades, capabilities, policy and procedures. Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position involves work typical of an office environment with no unusual hazards. There is occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting and use of a computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while writing, reviewing, and editing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness.
