Full Job Description
Job Summary: The Systems Administrator supports the installation, configuration, maintenance, security, documentation, and sustainment of prototype and operational satellite ground systems, satellite operations centers, and supporting infrastructure. This role is responsible for maintaining availability and performance of mission systems; supporting software deployments, patching, backups, and external system interfaces; implementing and documenting approved system changes; and helping ensure systems remain compliant with Government security and information assurance requirements in support of operational mission needs. Key Responsibilities: System Maintenance and Administration: • Install, configure, maintain, and support software deployments in the ground software environment. • Perform regular, scheduled, preventative maintenance activities on hardware and software for the ground systems and supporting infrastructure. • Troubleshoot failed or broken hardware components and restore service while adhering to the Government defined Change Request Process and IA requirements. • Update mission procedures, configurations, software environment, scripts, and related technical artifacts to address errors, new features, and performance needs. • Maintain all external interfaces with and among system components necessary to conduct operations. • Support test and verification activities to ensure the software environment, scripts, and integration code meet functionality and performance requirements. Security and Backup: • Implement cybersecurity integration and patching on the ground system throughout the period of performance. • Maintain up-to-date backups of physical machines, virtual machines, network equipment configurations, and cross domain systems (CDS) to ensure availability requirements are met. • Ensure workstations are equipped with software necessary to comply with customer, operator, and IA specifications and perform assessments and modifications to meet RMF requirements. • Prepare and maintain related cybersecurity documentation, provide documented proof of compliance, and assist with waivers for security configuration settings as required. • Provide periodic assessment of interface, connection, and infrastructure compliance with IA certification and accreditation requirements, specified risk posture, and established policies and procedures. • Support C&A input in accordance with RMF policy and procedure and support IATT, ATO, and ATC documentation packages as directed by the Government. • Support cybersecurity risk and vulnerability assessments and the setup, installation, configuration, implementation, training, and operation of defensive cybersecurity software and tools. Network and Server Management: • Assess, upgrade, install, configure, and sustain network infrastructure components such as cabling, switches, routers, access points, firewalls, and redundancy measures to ensure secure and reliable connectivity. • Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks or vulnerabilities, and support timely resolution of outages or degraded service. • Conduct regular security audits and patches, ensuring compliance with established standards. • Document network architecture and changes and deliver updated diagrams and reports to facility IT personnel. • Support efficient sustainment of ground system engineering infrastructure including hardware, software, license and license management, maintenance agreements, facilities management, and cybersecurity. User Support and Training: • Generate and maintain user manuals and training documentation suitable to educate operators and third-party users of the software. • Provide technical support to mission users and support Government-directed training and operational activities for assigned systems and cybersecurity tools. • Assist with account-related support where required by mission systems or COMSEC responsibilities. System Performance and Optimization: • Monitor system performance and availability and help ensure mission availability requirements are met. • Identify software end-of-life/end-of-support issues and present alternatives and mitigation strategies to the Government. • Support quarterly reviews, audits, and discrepancy reporting associated with mission system baselines and software configuration. • Coordinate required downtime with the Government to avoid scheduling conflicts. Software and Patch Management: • Maintain configuration of procedures, documents, baselines, products, and ground system software to preserve positive change control. • Use the appropriate configuration management tool and process to track and implement changes. • Support and participate in the Government Change Request process, including submissions and review boards, as applicable. • Finalize and update system documentation to reflect approved changes and new implementations or updates. • Ensure all code is saved in an appropriate ground system repository. • Work with software vendors or developers to ensure software remains IA compliant and that software updates or configuration changes receive proper approval through the Government defined Change Request Process. Qualifications: • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent combination of experience in lieu of degree. • Experience: 3+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role. • Clearance Requirement: Top Secret, with ability to obtain SCI • Required Skills: • Hands-on experience with system administration, system maintenance, backups, patching, and network/infrastructure support in operational environments. • Proficiency supporting Windows and/or Linux server environments and virtual machine backups or sustainment activities. • Experience implementing and documenting approved configuration changes using a formal configuration management and change request process. • Knowledge of network/security infrastructure, including firewalls, redundancy measures, intrusion detection-related monitoring, security audits, and patch compliance. • Ability to maintain documentation of architectures, configurations, baselines, diagrams, reports, and user/training materials. • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and interface issues and restore availability in mission environments. • Understanding of RMF-related compliance support, IA requirements, workstation assessments/modifications, and cybersecurity documentation. • Strong communication skills to coordinate with Government personnel, facility IT personnel, operators, and other mission partners. • Ability to prioritize tasks, coordinate downtime, and support mission availability requirements. • Preferred Skills/Certifications: • Experience supporting prototype or operational satellite ground systems or satellite operations centers. • Experience supporting software deployments in a ground software environment. • Experience maintaining backups of physical machines, virtual machines, network equipment configurations, and CDS. • Experience conducting periodic software configuration audits and reporting discrepancies against baselines. • Experience supporting C&A, RMF, IATT, ATO, or ATC packages. • Experience supporting defensive cybersecurity software implementation and Government training/operation of DCO tools. • Experience documenting network architecture and delivering updated diagrams and reports. • Security+, CISSP, or similar cybersecurity-related certifications Work Environment/Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. • Ability to perform tasks such as connecting cables, installing hardware, and setting up workstations. • Standing, sitting, and bending for extended periods.
