Job DescriptionAs a System Safety Engineer III, you will serve as the embedded safety lead supporting day-to-day environmental, health, and safety (EHS) activities on A shift at the North Hollywood, CA facility. Working in a fast-paced environment across engineering, test, and facilities teams, you will implement, maintain, and audit Cal/OSHA-required programs, lead system hazard assessments, perform incident investigations, and ensure continuous safety compliance during operational design changes and test campaigns.
Key Responsibilities- Implement and maintain comprehensive site EHS programs under the direction of the Site Sr. EHS Engineer.
- Maintain strict facility compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations (including IIPP, HazCom, LOTO, Machine Guarding, and Fall Protection).
- Conduct routine facility EHS walkthroughs to identify unsafe conditions and track corrective/preventive actions to verified closure.
- Assist with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), PPE assessments, Management of Change (MOC) reviews, and go/no-go safety readiness reviews.
- Lead incident, near-miss, and spill investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action development.
- Support onboarding, deliver EHS safety training, and serve as the main program focal point for safety and environmental concerns.
- Assist with environmental compliance activities, including hazardous waste disposal, universal waste, and chemical inventory management.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of total experience in safety, EHS, process safety, system safety, reliability engineering, or operational risk management.
- 5+ years of experience in an operational aerospace environment, manufacturing, chemical industry, pilot plant, prototyping, or test operations.
- Mandatory Requirement: Direct, hands-on experience implementing or maintaining Cal/OSHA general industry programs at a California facility (General OSHA alone is not sufficient).
- Extensive knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ANSI, and local regulations, along with Process Safety Management (PSM) methods.
- Expert proficiency in hazard assessments (PHA, JHA, FMEA, HAZOP), root cause analysis, and drafting technical safety reports.
- Physical capability to walk the facility regularly, lift/carry up to 50 lbs, climb multiple flights of stairs, and withstand prolonged standing in an industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications- 5-6 years of specific hands-on EHS facility coordination experience alongside specialized system safety roles.
- Active experience in environmental regulatory compliance.
- Experience using or interpreting data from industrial hygiene tools and monitors.
