What You Would Do in This RoleThe System Integration Specialist sits at the intersection of engineering data, application development and emerging AI tooling. This role is for someone who can move fast - building integrations, automating workflows, and developing practical AI-powered applications that serve both Vista internal operations and client-facing project delivery. This is not a traditional IT role. The right candidate thinks like an engineer, builds like a developer, and is energized by applying AI tools to real industrial problems. Duties include:
- Rapidly prototyping and deploying internal tools and AI-assisted applications (LLM integrations, RAG pipelines, workflow automation)
- Designing and maintaining ETL/data integrations between engineering platforms (AVEVA, Plant 3D, document management systems, databases)
- Developing and enhancing .NET, Python, or scripting-based solutions to automate manual engineering workflows
- Building and maintaining SQL-based data pipelines and supporting database administration
- Authoring XML/JSON configurations for data publishing and system interoperability
- Developing APIs and leveraging cloud-based services to enable data transfer and process automation
- Producing clear documentation, workflows, and training materials for project teams
- Liaising across Engineering, Design, Project Management, and IT to identify and build fit-for-purpose solutions
- Ensuring data integrity across platforms
- Troubleshooting and solving application challenges
Requirements- Degree or diploma in Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field - or equivalent demonstrated experience building and deploying technical solutions in an industrial or engineering environment
- Demonstrated ability to build working software - Python, .NET (C# or VB), or equivalent; you write code, not just configure tools
- Hands-on experience with ETL operations, relational databases (MS SQL, PostgreSQL, or similar), and data pipeline development
- Practical experience with AI/LLM tools - prompt engineering, API integration (OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI, or similar), and building AI-augmented workflows or applications
- Comfort working with messy, real-world engineering or industrial data
- Strong communicator - able to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Self-directed with a bias toward shipping: you build a working version first, then refine
- Team player with a positive attitude and always willing to accept new challenges
- Translate complex technical architectures and data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
Preferred- A background in, or strong exposure to industrial/energy sector engineering workflows (pipeline, oil sands, facilities, or similar)
- Previous experience with AVEVA toolset(s) including AVEVA NET / AIM development and administration experience
- Experience with web languages (HTML 5/CSS, JavaScript)
- Experience with RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) pipelines, vector databases, or document intelligence applications
- Exposure to machine learning model development or predictive analytics
- Experience in data visualization and analysis (e.g., PowerBI or similar tools)
- Able to complete most duties with limited support from Senior or Lead team member
- Provide training and support to less experienced team members
