WHAT DOES A SYSTEM ENGINEER DO?
- Augment a well-established team as a System Engineer. This is a collaborative team environment that entails frequent interaction with customers. This is a fast-paced team so a willingness to take on challenges to creatively solve customer requirement problems will be required. The successful candidate for System Engineer will be self-motivated and will support new development work as well as sustainment activities.
- The System Engineer will be highly organized individual who is always willing to support and help the team move forward. The System Engineer will work with the Product Leads to make sure everything is correct and also help parse language between the developers for a different contract and business language. The successful candidate will need to be comfortable working on a team for various products/services that mostly deal with business services such as Security, HR, Training, etc.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- The System Engineer will analyze user's requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications.
- The System Engineer will be required to analyze system requirements and leads design and development activities and guide users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches and conducts feasibility studies.
- The successful candidate will be required to provide technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology and incorporate new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations.
- Additionally, the System Engineer will be required develop technical documentation and develop system Architecture and system design documentation.
- Guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans.
- Interacts with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and for associated problems, issues or conflicts.
- Ultimate responsibility for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility and communicate with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives.
REQUIREMENTS
- ACTIVE TS//SCI Security Clearance required at time of application
- Twenty (20) years' experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required.
- Bachelor's degree in system engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
- Five (5) years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
Core Responsibilities:- Analyze, develop, and manage system and derived requirements to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and stakeholder needs.
- Lead the development and maintenance of system engineering artifacts, including:
- System Engineering Plans (SEPs)
- Requirements Specifications
- Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
- Risk Management Plans
- Acquisition and technical documentation
- Perform requirements decomposition and allocation to functional and physical components (hardware, software, personnel, facilities).
- Support the design and validation of system architectures using frameworks such as DoDAF; develop OV, SV, and TV products to document technical solutions.
- Conduct and/or support end-to-end system trade studies, risk assessments, and impact analysis to inform architecture and design decisions.
- Lead or participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), and engineering review boards, ensuring cross-discipline coordination and resolution of action items.
- Define and implement system verification and validation processes; establish criteria and develop test plans to confirm compliance with requirements.
- Perform interface definition and control, managing design artifacts in centralized repositories.
- Create and maintain project schedules, technical baselines, and work breakdown structures (WBS) to support program planning and execution.
- Apply SOA principles in system-level design; define and evaluate interface specifications and data exchanges between subsystems.
- Provide subject matter input on non-functional system characteristics such as reliability, maintainability, supportability, scalability, and interoperability.
- Use modeling, simulation, and prototyping techniques to analyze system performance and support risk reduction.
Technical Qualifications:- 10+ years of experience in systems engineering or related field.
- Proficiency with systems modeling tools, technical baseline documentation, and version control.
- Experience defining and managing system interfaces-both software (e.g., data exchanges, message formats) and hardware (e.g., signal paths, I/O specs).
- Skilled in MS Excel (pivot tables/charts), Visio, and engineering diagramming tools.
- Demonstrated experience in architecture development, interface management, integration planning, and system-level trade-off analysis.
- Ability to coordinate and drive system engineering activities across multi-disciplinary teams and multiple development efforts.
