The Opportunity

Position: System Engineer/Analyst

Employment Type: Permanent

Employment Level: Intermediate

Location: Teeswater, Ontario

Department: Nuclear Materials Management (Teeswater Laundry)

Reports to: Director, Ontario Nuclear Services

Hours per week: 40 hours per week (This is a shift work position. Shift workers may be assigned to work 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. Overtime and weekend work may be required. Shift workers may be scheduled for day, afternoon and/or night shift(s) including rotating shifts.

Starting Salary Range: $115,000 to $135,000. Exact compensation may vary depending on the individual experience and qualifications of each candidate. Applicants with greater or less than the minimum qualifications for this posted opportunity may be considered for alternate opportunities.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact

  • Review, evaluate and manage the health of all equipment at TLF, TMF and ONS
  • Provide technical leadership for a variety of projects, process improvement and preventative maintenance at TLF, TMF and ONS.
  • Develop, propose, plan and lead a preventative maintenance program with the support of the maintenance teams to minimize loss of production at the facilities.
  • Develop predictive capabilities for key components to ensure that maintenance can be planned to ensure reliability of systems
  • Have an understanding and ability to apply engineering fundamentals various projects being implemented in the facilities
  • Prepare design packages deliverables which may include but are not limited to design plans, design requirements, design requirements traceability matrices and other design outputs under the direction of the design technical lead.
  • Able to work in collaboration with Technical Team Lead and Subject Matter Experts to support conceptual designs and turn them into detailed design packages
  • Cooperate and work with internal and external sources on the resolution of technical problems
  • Provide technical input into the development of equipment specifications and selection for systems which may include mechanical, electrical, controls software and I&C.
  • Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation, and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements. Working with equipment suppliers can include activities such as site visits to review system compliance to fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of supplier prepared fabrication drawings, review and acceptance of assembly procedures including leak testing, etc.
  • Assist in procurement engineering activities such as preparing procurement plans, incoming inspections, scope of work, reviewing terms and identifying appropriate risks.
  • Provide troubleshooting support during equipment build and testing evolutions from assembly, functional testing, and factory acceptance testing through commissioning.
  • Support project management and other assigned duties on as need basis.
  • Project management responsibilities may include instructing and providing work direction to and checking the work of, a number of assigned staff such as 1 to 3 junior engineers/scientist and some technical staff working on a common project.
  • Plan and develop technical proposals for internal and external customers.
  • Liaise with customers, staff, contractors, consultants, and vendors as appropriate
  • Act as technical support for Section Managers, Senior Director and others in the department.
  • Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts, including cost estimates, schedule, and resources required.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in the technical processes and support change derived from lessons learned
  • Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
  • Occasional travel to Bruce Power, OPG, or other client and Kinectrics sites may be required including outage field support.

What You Need to Succeed

  • A Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Chemical, Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 6 years of relevant engineering experience in the Nuclear or Manufacturing industry.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in project execution for manufacturing equipment and/or control systems including electrical and I&C design of equipment, fixtures, and/or systems
  • Experience in design/build and Factory Acceptance Testing/commissioning is required.
  • Experience in managing suppliers for part design, assembly, and manufacturing.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with CANDU nuclear technology is considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards including but not limited to CSA N285, CSA N299, CSA N290.14.
  • Excellent problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively on a technical level.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Good time management skills and demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
  • A Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), or eligible for PEO status.
  • Ability to successfully obtain and maintain a nuclear security site clearance


This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
