As a System Controller Trainer, you’ll report to the Manager, Training and Compliance Delivery and play a vital role in shaping the next generation of system controllers who safeguard Alberta’s grid. You will apply a systematic approach to training (SAT) to design, develop, and continuously improve courses within the System Controller Training Program, while maintaining compliance with applicable Alberta Reliability Standards (ARS) and the NERC System Operator Continuing Education Program.

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Develop, maintain, and provide a formal System Controller training program using the ADDIE model for instructional design, ensuring reliability requirements are met for:
System Controllers in Training to achieve NERC Reliability Operator (RC) certification.
Competency verification for AESO System Controller task lists & requirements.
Ongoing NERC continuing education and Alberta Reliability Standard requirements.
Design and integrate Human Performance Improvement tools into learning materials and job aids.
Deliver training programs online or in person for groups of 30–60 learners.
Maintain AESO’s status as a NERC continuing education provider by managing course records and updating databases.
Develop and maintain NERC Individual Learning Activity (ILA) documentation for Continuing Education (CE) hours.
Support logistical requirements for training programs (facilities, catering, A/V).
Use technical writing best practices to create high-quality training materials, including instructor-led training resources, eLearning modules, software manuals, quick reference guides, and job aids.
Use training facilitation best practices to deliver technical and soft-skill courses.
Actively participate in training & performance needs analysis and cause coding activities.
What you’ll bring to us:
Bachelor’s degree in education (B.Ed), or a certificate in Workplace or Adult Learning from an accredited post-secondary institution.
Certificate in Technical Writing at an accredited institution is an asset.
Participation in human performance and train-the-trainer conferences and workshops is an asset.
3-5 years’ experience in adult learning or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience with systematic approaches to training to develop courses.
Experience in delivering training to an audience of 20+ people.
Experience in writing training reference materials and procedures.
Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
