ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a
System Analyst to join our team supporting the
Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory site! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Mifflin, PA.
Responsibilities- Supports and develops automated chemistry equipment at the laboratory and in the fleet.
- Administers system configuration, administration, compliance, maintenance, and technical documentation in a Windows-based environment.
- Works with applications and tools such as Group Policy, HBSS/ESS, managed device security software, various engineering software, firewalls, system compliance utilities, and system hardware.
- Troubleshoots and maintains stable, secure, and compliant systems.
- Supports a technically diverse environment and contributes to the reliability and readiness of systems that support critical operations.
Requirements- Education & Years of Experience - Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and 5+ years of work experience.
- Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
- Clearance - To be considered, you must have an active or very recently active DOE "Q" Clearance or DoD "Top Secret" Clearance.
- Administer, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows operating systems and infrastructure.
- Manage Group Policy Objects (GPOs), host-based firewalls, and endpoint compliance tools.
- Experience with HBSS/ESS or similar host-level security/compliance platforms.
- Perform system patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation.
- Support standalone and boundary-specific workstations and devices while ensuring proper configuration and readiness.
- Conducting hardware/software compliance checks, certification reviews, and baseline enforcement.
- Perform workflow analysis, document test results, and develop/update SOPs.
- Troubleshoot OS, application, and system utility issues; coordinate with engineering/development as needed.
- Participate in projects to deploy, upgrade, or enhance infrastructure, applications, and system components.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, system configurations, and automation scripts/utilities.
- Provide subject matter expertise on system configuration and operational processes across the local boundary.
- Prioritize multiple tasks/projects and adjust work plans to align with organizational needs.
- Support project delivery to meet functional, technical, and security requirements.
- Understanding of system architectures.
Desired Skills- Knowledge of Cisco network hardware.
- Experience installing, configuring, and managing VMware virtual environments.
- Vulnerability management experience.
- Experience creating and maintaining scripts (PowerShell).
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Positive attitude with a strong team-oriented mindset.
- Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
- Basic proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language (preferably LabVIEW).
- Experience administering Windows OS environments, including Group Policy, system hardening, and host-based firewalls.
- Familiarity with system compliance assessments, vulnerability management, and patch management workflows.
- Experience working in standalone, isolated, or segmented network environments.
- Strong technical writing skills, including SOPs, system documentation, and test summaries.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to shifting priorities, including emergent work.
- Experience supporting hardware/software certification reviews and baseline compliance checks.
- Project management experience.
About the SiteThe Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together, they develop advanced technology for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensure the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, and train Sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carrier fleets (energy.gov).
