Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Maintain operating systems, and develop and maintain associated software. Develop and implement procedures for backing up, restoring, and archiving file systems. Install and maintain security and virus detection software.Provide advice, help plan departmental systems, and develop administrative software and systems. Provide technical advice on hardware and software problems to faculty and staff. Customize and integrate other software to meet office needs.
  2. Make recommendations to the Chair for the acquisition of hardware and software, puts quotes out for bidding, purchase hardware and software.
  3. Install and troubleshoot network hardware and software. Diagnose and remedy problems and either repair equipment or arrange repairs by service agents.
  4. Supervise, train, and evaluate lower ranked IT specialists and IT student assistants.
  5. Design/troubleshoot/maintain firewalls & network/comp monitoring to ensure sys is operating correctly & protect dept IT infrastructure fr security breaches while accommodating faculty/labs that need to be outside of the firewalls to varying extents.
  6. Maintain, secure and support student computer labs with seamless access to student and faculty and remote monitoring capabilities.
  7. Develop and implement an IT equipment periodic renewal plan for the Department including multi-year cost projections, competitive bidding and purchasing, and installation.
  8. Design, maintain and periodically upgrade networked video surveillance systems for corridors and labs in ICS to discourage thief, vandalism and cheating.
  9. Oversee and manage the daily operations of the ICS computer networks and labs.
  10. Monitor critical traffic on network; evaluate system performance and network throughput; and recommends changes as needed.
  11. Develop, establish and maintain procedures and policies for operating departmental computer laboratory. And develop administrative software systems such as an equipment database system.
  12. Develops and experiments with new ideas, techniques, processes, and applications to increase job productivity and effectiveness.
  13. Maintain hardware and software infrastructure for data communications.
  14. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Science, Computer Science, or related field and 6 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Multi-User system administration and resource management, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of IT administration and project management as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodology.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with IT resource management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluation, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  8. Demonstrated knowledge of network systems including LANs, WAN, WLAN, CAN, SAN, VPN, VMs, and Cloud-based systems.
  9. Demonstrated knowledge of security systems and peripherals such as switches, routers, firewalls, commercial security-ware, physical plant security, and video surveillance systems integrated with non-routing networks. Experience in programming which demonstrates knowledge of Unix, Cygwin, FreeBSD, Perl, ASP, C+, WScript, JScript, and/or Windows batch-scripting.
