Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Senior Principal Engineer to serve as our Digital Transformation Lead, providing technical and strategic leadership for our modeling team's Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Modeling and Simulation (M&S) work, and for our broader digital transformation and digital engineering initiatives. As Technical Lead, you will manage team workload, unblock engineers, and keep initiatives moving, while also owning integration across cross-discipline engineering work and ontology definition for our modeling ecosystems. You will drive enterprise-wide digital threading, traceability, and digital engineering strategy, and represent BAE Systems and our program sponsors at industry events, conferences, and symposiums at a strategic level.
- Serve as technical and strategic lead for the modeling team, covering MBSE, M&S, digital transformation, and digital engineering initiatives
- Manage team technical workload, set priorities, and unblock engineers to keep initiatives on track, consistent with Technical Lead responsibilities
- Own integration across cross-discipline engineering work, including ontology definition for modeling ecosystems
- Drive enterprise-wide digital threading, traceability, and digital engineering strategy
- Lead a technical team spanning multiple levels, including senior and junior engineers, providing mentorship, technical direction, and career development
- Represent BAE Systems and program sponsors at industry events, conferences, and symposiums at a strategic level, ensuring appropriate presence and visibility
- Partner with vendors on solution architecting for modeling, simulation, and digital engineering toolchains
- Work with cross-disciplinary teams, particularly in AI and data analytics, to integrate emerging capabilities into digital engineering workflows
Required Skills and Education- Current SECRET clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and minimum 12 years of relevant experience (Master's degree with 10 years, or PhD with 8 years, also considered)
- Demonstrated experience leading a technical team as a Tech Lead, including managing workload, unblocking engineers, and mentoring both senior and junior team members
- Experience presenting at industry conferences, symposiums, or similar events, representing an organization or program at a strategic level
- Experience working with vendors on solution architecting for engineering, modeling, or simulation tools
- Hands-on experience with Ansys ModelCenter, MCRE, MBSE Plugin, and STK
- Experience with mission and threat modeling
- Experience with federated systems-of-models / federated digital engineering ecosystems, spanning multiple linked models and authoritative sources of truth
- Experience managing large and complex SysML models
- Experience integrating AI capabilities with SysML models
- Highly experienced with Cameo Systems Modeler/Enterprise Architect
- Familiarity with Cameo plugin development and scripting in Groovy
- Experience building and leading the development of APIs and integrations between engineering tools
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-disciplinary teams, particularly with AI and data analytics
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to executive and sponsor-level stakeholders
Preferred Skills and Education- Master's or PhD in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- INCOSE certification (CSEP or ESEP) or OMG Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP)
- Experience with the DoD Digital Engineering Strategy and related digital engineering ecosystem concepts
- Experience with additional MBSE/M&S tools (Rhapsody, Capella, or similar)
- Experience with digital twin or digital thread implementations at an enterprise scale
- Prior invited or keynote speaking experience at INCOSE, NDIA, AIAA, or similar industry symposiums
- Experience supporting classified networks or programs
- Experience defining or governing ontologies for large, multi-discipline engineering ecosystems
