Full Job Description
Get to Know the Opportunity

The primary goal of the position is to significantly increase institutional assets under management over time, across all investment products, sourced from leading US investment consulting firms.

Getting Voya IM's best capabilities in front of consultants, moving such capabilities through the various stages of the manager research process at each consulting firm, gaining positive ratings for inclusion in consultant-influenced searches and, critically, securing investor allocations are key to how the chosen professional will be measured and compensated.

In addition to a deep and broad set of substantive professional business relationships, this individual will need to have extensive knowledge of the investment business and related investment products, as well as an understanding of how to address the distinct needs of investment consultants and their clients.

The placed candidate will also have a shared responsibility for ensuring that the firm always presents its most appropriate-to-the-situation team to the influencers and decision makers at the various stages of the manager research process.

The Contributions You'll Make

The Consultant Relations Manager will be responsible for directly managing a substantial portion of Voya IM's consultant relations efforts, including headquarter and field offices. This position may also include responsibility for some direct plan sponsor calling.

Of significant importance to the role are coordination, collaboration and communication with Voya IM's relationship management, business development, and investment teams.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Managing relationships with investment consultant manager research staff as well as field consultants.
  • Establishing a plan of action regarding which capabilities to take to each assigned consulting firm, with a focus on new ratings and existing client relationships. This includes tactical actions and accountabilities so that clear goals can be established, measured, and met.
  • Collaborating closely with the Sales, Relationship Management, Client Service and Consultant Relations colleagues regarding consultant, client, and marketing issues.
  • Providing business development and investment management, teams with detailed call notes and market feedback, both positive and negative on all aspects of Voya IM's products and general trends.
  • Being a strong intellectual contributor and trusted advisor to the institutional community.
  • Collaborating with the consultant relations team to determine agendas for research meetings and materials necessary to deliver impactful consultant presentations.

Minimum Knowledge &Qualifications
  • An individual with at least 15 years of experience working in asset management and at least 5 years of experience working in a consultant relations role for a multi-capability institutional investment management firm.
  • The ideal candidate must have a proven and measurable track record of gaining product ratings, getting into searches, and generating revenue through investment consultants.
  • A strong academic background, including an advanced degree or professional designation such as a CFA are preferred; however, a proven track record of success is of far greater importance.
  • Extensive knowledge of the investment management industry with a comprehensive understanding of investment consultants and their institutional clients.
  • Voya IM prefers candidates who have successfully navigated their consultant relationships through organizational change and who communicate with internal and external relationships with confidence.

Preferred Knowledge & Experience:
  • Strong professional relationship skills with a commercial mindset and a sales instinct to meet consultant needs with viable win-win solutions. Preference given to candidates who have established strong relationships with global and national firms with headquarters in the eastern region as well as with alts/private markets focused firms such as Aksia, StepStone and Albourne.
  • Strong, clear communication skills and the ability to deliver both good and bad news in a timely and effective manner.
  • Self-starter who can hit the ground running.
  • A "can-do," activity-oriented individual who has the inherent drive and energy to follow through in the pursuit of measurable results.
  • Demonstrates appropriate tenacity and professional persistence indicative of successful distribution professionals.
  • Ability to be unusually persuasive and to develop and leverage relationships across a wide range of professional peers, internally and externally.
  • This role will be based in eastern US with special consideration given to NYC, Atlanta or Boston based candidates. Candidates in other locations will be considered.
