Job Summary

The Survey Crew Chief is required to perform various types of surveys which include, but are not limited to boundary, topographic, existing conditions, right-of-way, transmission line, subsurface utility engineering and construction layout. This role coordinates and oversees survey crews comprised of bargaining unit and/or mast employees to ensure survey projects are safely, effectively and efficiently completed within operational quality, and budgetary constraints which aligns with departmental and PSEG LI requirements. The Survey Crew Chief reports directly to the Operations Supervisor

Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct various types of surveys which include, boundary, topographic, existing conditions, right-of-way, transmission line, subsurface utility engineering and construction layout.
  • Oversee, under Survey Manager/Operations Supervisor direction the work of venders/contractors performing land surveying services for the company/department.
  • Lead manange and direct crew consisting of represented survey assistants and contractors performing land surveying services.
  • Ensure all safety measures and precautions are in place and observed for assigned personnel and equipment.
  • Develop and execute a plan to complete surveying projects on time and within budget while exercising discretion regarding proper surveying procedures for the task assigned.
  • Ensure field conditions are clearly documented through the use of concise notes, sketches supplemented with photographs and daily log. Maintain project drawings and files as per department requirements.
  • Responsible for quality assurance/control of all project field data collected for each project assigned including the field work of survey assistants and contractors.
  • Conduct regular maintenance and calibration of surveying equipment and scheduling of maintenance for company vehicle.
  • Oversee, under Survey Manager/Operations Supervisor direction the work of venders/contractors performing land surveying services for the company/department.


Job Specific Qualifications

  • Associates Degree with 3 years survey experience, in lieu of degree 4 years' of Crew Chief experience
  • Ability to understand and clearly communicate project requirements for all types of field surveys performed
  • Ability to translate surveying policies into processes and procedures that drive greater efficiencies for PSEG LI
  • Responsible for the quality assurance/control of all project field data collected including the field work of bargaining unit survey assistants
  • Ability to perform basic record research
  • Ability to drive a light truck in on/off road conditions
  • Must be able to perform job duties in outdoor environments with various terrain, climates and weather conditions and must be willing to travel to field sites within PSEGLI service territory
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Provide training to crew personnel to operate equipment and perform surveys


Desired:
  • Certified Survey Technician
  • Knowledge of NYS code 753, subsurface utility engineering (SUE)
  • Laser scanning and mobile mapping

As an employee of PSEG Long Island, you should be aware that during storm/outage restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and work extended hours beyond your regular work schedule. You may also be required to work on premise or in an alternate location as directed by the company.
