Description
We are looking for an experienced
Survey Crew Chief to join our newest office in Meriden, CT. This field position is a great opportunity to take ownership, lead from the front, work with advanced surveying technology, collaborate with professionals across multiple disciplines, and contribute to projects that make a lasting impact. As a Survey Crew Chief, you will lead survey crews on a wide variety of projects throughout Connecticut and New England. Your work will directly support the planning, design, and construction of infrastructure that communities rely on every day.
Responsibilities:- Conduct and oversee survey crews on assigned projects
- Utilize robotic total stations and GPS units to precisely map sites and collect high-quality field data
- Lead crews on projects including compressor stations, substations, and DEEP boundaries
- Perform accurate and efficient construction staking for projects
- Assist with subsurface utility engineering and laser scanning projects
- Perform deed research and assemble map records
- Maintain detailed and precise field notes and electronic survey records
- Ensure the safety of your crew, equipment, and surrounding work environment
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, utility representatives, and other professionals
- Identify field conditions, solve problems, and communicate issues that could impact project quality or schedule
- Properly operate, maintain, and care for surveying equipment
- Support additional project and field activities as needed, with other duties and responsibilities assigned based on project needs
- Train and mentor junior survey staff and instrument operators
- Verify quality and completeness of field data prior to office processing
- Coordinate field activities with property owners, clients, contractors, and utility companies
- Ensure compliance with company QA/QC standards
- Assist with preparation of daily reports and project documentation
Preferred location is BETA's Meriden, CT office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations.

Requirements
Required Experience/Skills: - 5+ years of professional land surveying or related experience
- Experience coordinating field survey activities and managing crew assignments.
- Strong understanding of surveying principles, field procedures, control, data collection, and construction layout
- Proficient with Trimble and/or Topcon robotic total stations and GPS equipment
- Experience with Trimble Business Center, Carlson Survey, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar survey data processing software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Extensive experience performing construction staking and layout for transportation, utility, and site development projects.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, survey documents, deeds, plans, and construction drawings
- Familiarity with survey requirements associated with local, state, and utility projects.
- Strong technical aptitude and an eagerness to learn
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
- Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
- Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Preferred Experience/Skills : - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field
- Connecticut LSIT or PLS licensure
- OSHA 10-Hour Construction Certification
- Experience with laser scanning, UAV/drone surveying, and subsurface utility engineering
- Experience working on agency, municipal, and utility infrastructure projects

Salary Description
$74,000-$98,000 or commensurate
