Description:
The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in delivering patient care during the intra-operative period.
This position focuses on the preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment while assisting the surgeon during procedures.
The individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate to geriatric.
The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable about specific procedures or specialties.
They must effectively prioritize, plan, and problem solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures.
This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is essential and should be applied in all patient and family interactions.
The Surgical Technician displays aseptic technique in performing surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes.
They demonstrate responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation.
Consistent performance of sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure is required.
Knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is expected.
