Full Job Description
Surgical Clinical Specialist
Permanent

The following challenges await you:

Clinical Education and Surgeon Training
  • Serve as the primary field-based clinical educator for surgeons, advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, wound care clinicians, and perioperative staff, tailoring education to audience, specialty, and stage of adoption.
  • Deliver product education using approved clinical evidence, published literature, and company-approved messaging, including patient selection, application technique, and post-application management.
  • Provide education for complex anatomy and difficult-to-manage wounds, and on compatibility with adjunctive modalities such as negative pressure wound therapy.
  • Identify knowledge or technique gaps and reinforce best practices until the surgical team demonstrates confidence and consistency.
  • Collaborate with Clinical Leadership and Medical Affairs to ensure all education remains scientifically accurate and compliant.

Operating Room and Procedural Support
  • Provide in-person clinical support during surgical procedures evaluating or adopting Mirragen, as a clinical resource and educator - not as a provider of direct patient care.
  • Participate in pre-case planning with the sales team and confirm the surgical team has received appropriate product education prior to first use.
  • Provide real-time guidance on product preparation, handling, placement, and integration into the surgeon's workflow, supporting initial and complex applications.
  • Coordinate post-case follow-up expectations (clinical review, data collection, photography) and document clinical support activities for internal partners.

Evaluation Trial Planning and Management
  • Serve as clinical lead throughout product evaluations, partnering with the account team to define trial objectives, patient population, documentation expectations, and criteria for success.
  • Ensure clinically appropriate patient selection, provide baseline education, and remain actively involved during the early phase of each trial.
  • Maintain a structured follow-up cadence; review wound measurements, photographs, and treatment progression, and calculate outcome measures such as Percent Area Reduction (PAR).
  • Identify early warning signs of stalled progress and engage Clinical Leadership or Medical Affairs when additional expertise is needed.
  • Develop the Evaluation Summary Report with Medical Affairs at trial completion and support the conversion strategy with Sales, maintaining the distinction between clinical guidance and commercial negotiation.

Field Follow-Up and Troubleshooting
  • Provide responsive clinical follow-up after product application in the OR, clinic, or wound center, helping clinicians interpret wound progression.
  • Reinforce appropriate wound bed preparation, moisture balance, offloading, compression, and post-operative protection.
  • Escalate clinical questions, safety concerns, adverse events, product complaints, or off-label inquiries through established company channels (Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer).

Data Collection and Evaluation Reporting
  • Ensure evaluation documentation is complete, accurate, and consistent, including wound measurements and high-quality photographic documentation in accordance with privacy requirements.
  • Analyze treatment trends, product utilization, and barriers to success; identify when data suggest the need for early clinical intervention.
  • Prepare clear, objective Evaluation Summary Reports with Sales and Clinical Leadership, maintaining data integrity and avoiding unsupported conclusions.

Clinical Evidence Development
  • Identify strong surgical cases and investigators suitable for case reports, case series, posters, abstracts, or manuscripts.
  • Engage providers early to prospectively collect consent, photography, measurements, and follow-up information.
  • Coordinate with Medical Affairs, Clinical Leadership, and Marketing to ensure scientific quality and compliance, and build a pipeline of surgical case series within the assigned territory.

Sales Partnership and Strategic Field Support
  • Work as the clinical extension of the field team; Sales retains ownership of the commercial relationship while Clinical Support provides scientific credibility and objective clinical guidance.
  • Conduct joint field visits and participate in territory/account planning to identify where clinical support has the greatest impact.
  • Maintain professional boundaries - does not make pricing, contracting, reimbursement, or other commercial commitments outside the role's authority.

Hospital, Health System, and Conference Representation
  • Provide education to surgeons, OR staff, wound care nurses, and value analysis stakeholders, and support new product implementation and workflow adoption at facilities.
  • Represent ETS at surgical, wound care, and specialty conferences as determined by leadership, including exhibit hall education, hands-on workshops, and poster presentations.
  • Support identification and development of surgeon champions, faculty, investigators, and key opinion leaders.

Your Profile:

  • Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse license required; advanced practice licensure may be considered when aligned with role needs.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant clinical experience in surgery, perioperative services, advanced wound care, trauma, orthopedics, podiatry, plastic surgery, or a closely related specialty.
  • Demonstrated experience educating physicians, nurses, and multidisciplinary clinical teams, with comfort and credibility in the operating room.
  • Ability to interpret clinical literature and analyze wound measurements and clinical outcomes data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms, CRM or field activity systems, and electronic documentation tools.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet company travel requirements.
  • Preferred: certification such as CWS, CWON, CWOCN, WCC, CSWD-C, CNOR, or another relevant advanced clinical credential.
  • Preferred: experience in medical device, biotechnology, regenerative medicine, or advanced wound care field support, including product evaluations, case series, or conference presentations.
