Job Description:

Role Definition:

Manage supplier relationships, shipping schedules, and performance in alignment with MRP demand and Executive Build Schedules (EBS).

What You Will Do:
  • Working with master planners on outsourcing needs; managing purchase orders and monitoring inventory targets.
  • Identifying and recommending improvement solutions for the supply-chain process.
  • Supporting customers and customer proposal efforts with pricing information and supplier selection.
  • Maintaining and supporting supply chain application systems.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
  • Identifies tasks or outputs that require accuracy and detail-level attention.
  • Identifies the procedures for making sure that results are mistake-free.
  • Describes consequences of errors within own unit or function.


Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Explains characteristics and steps in an effective decision-making process.

Logistics Management: Knowledge of logistics and management; ability to follow proper processes and run operations for effective and efficient movement of materials and finished products.

  • Describes basic logistical processes and sub-processes.


Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP): Knowledge of the processes, practices and systems used in manufacturing requirements planning (MRP); ability to optimize planning for manufacturing cycles and ensure capacity and materials availability.
  • Describes basic concepts of materials and capacity management processes and procedures.
  • Identifies parameters and considerations used in making decisions about production runs.
  • Describes the use of bills of materials and other documentation needed to provide supplies.


Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives.
  • Examines a specific problem and understand the perspective of each involved stakeholder.
  • Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information. • Helps to analyze risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution.
  • Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems.


Process Improvement: Understanding and insight into evaluating current product quality and production methods and ability to maintain focus on the continuous improvement of processes, products and services.
  • Identifies the main processes for which the group is responsible.
  • Demonstrates the ability to improve on ways of doing things.
  • Applies the concept of continuous improvement to identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
  • Seeks help to implement ideas for process improvement for the group.


Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
  • Identifies project management tools and requirements within own function.
  • Describes the key objectives, phases and deliverables of a current project.
  • Gives examples of critical paths in projects.


Supplier Management - MFG: Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
  • Describes the typical tasks associated with using and managing suppliers.
  • Defines common terms and conditions of agreements with suppliers.
  • States the roles and responsibilities of one's own and suppliers' staff.


Top Candidates May Also Have:
  • Degree in any supply chain field.
  • Extensive experience managing supplier schedules, production schedules, or manufacturing build plans.
  • APICS Certification.
  • Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to resolving supply chain issues.

Summary Pay Range:

$81,370.00 - $122,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
