PRIMARY FUNCTION

Quality Engineer (QE) will act as the functional group nonconforming material report/material review board owners and drive the resolution of Nonconformance Reports (NCR). QE will facilitate the Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Continuous Improvement (CI) processes for the functional areas based on internal audits and data-indicated problem areas. Support customer needs in functional areas using data analysis. This position is considered a quality leader. This is a hands-on role that interacts with assembly operators, quality inspectors, manufacturing, aviation, and engineering personnel to proactively ensure quality product that meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Supports all Quality Management data, reports, analysis, etc. as directed by the Quality Manager.
• Ability to analyze and resolve design, manufacturing, and process issues varying from basic to very complex and technically challenging.
• Interfaces with Production Operations, Quality / Manufacturing Engineering and Material Support staff.
• Manages Material Review Boards to include disposition of non-conforming material, investigate/identify product containment, identify root cause and ensure corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence.
• Leads non-conformance issues through to root cause and corrective / preventive action.
• Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains quality evaluation and control and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.
• Devises / implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
• Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms, and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications.
• Audits processes for deficiency identification and correction
• May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and / or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
• Performs assessments / audits on processes and procedures to ensure compliance to specifications, engineering drawings, procedures and AS9100 / AS9110 with a primary focus in mechanical engineering.
• Attends program corrective action meetings, identifies trends, assists in problem resolution, and ensures responsible parties meet required standards through internal audits.
• Reviews documentation related to internal and external manufacturing processes to ensure quality products are delivered to the customer.
• Coordinate and expedite the flow of work and materials. Arrange for delivery, assembly or distribution of components and supplies to expedite flow of materials and meet production schedules.
• Performing mechanical/electrical drawing interpretation and problem resolution.
• Serves as the primary point-of-contact for quality inspectors and planners.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including:
o Cross functional process development.
o Improving quality control and assurance processes.
• Leads planning, review, approval, and application of First Article Inspections (FAI)
• Professionally represents the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects.
• Develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI) in support of organization needs.
• Provide leadership and manage program centric quality teams including mentoring other quality engineers and quality inspectors.
• Provide technical expertise to company employees, suppliers, customers, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with contractual, company, and regulatory requirement.
• Other duties as directed by Senior Managers and other quality leadership.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The company evaluates performance, leadership skills, technical knowledge and individual achievements and these factors support the company in making decisions such as recommending personnel for promotions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
• Knowledge and application with troubleshooting techniques and problem-solving skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Knowledge and application of LEAN and/or Six Sigma tools
• Organized, shows attention to detail, and demonstrate good documentation practices.
• Must have mathematical aptitude for performing data calculations. Working knowledge and experience with Deltek ERP tools, Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Word
• Demonstrates ability to learn new tasks and techniques.
• Effective communication and presentation skills.
• GD&T Experience with use of inspection gages and measuring equipment.
• In-depth knowledge of Quality Engineering methods, processes, and tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• This position requires an advanced degree in a related field with 5+ years in Supplier Quality, Manufacturing Quality, or Quality Engineering in the aerospace or defense industry. or a bachelor's degree with six (6) years' experience; or high school diploma with 12 years' experience.
• ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or Certified Supplier Quality Professional (CSQP), preferred.
• Strong background in AS9100 / ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
• Experience in aviation and highly skilled in identifying Critical Safety Items (CSI), or extremely knowledgeable in metallurgy, machining, finishing, or the production of printed circuit boards.
• Experience auditing and qualifying suppliers, including performing supplier Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) analysis and Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA)
• Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills when dealing with underperforming or difficult suppliers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to interact with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and government representatives.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
• Possess the ability to work well in a diverse team and with suppliers
• Must be able to travel to customers or suppliers' location
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET Government Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 30% travel will be required for this position.
