Job Summary
The Supplier Engineer is a key member of the Supplier Engineering department, which is part of Insulet's Global Procurement and Supplier Development organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources custom precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. The Supplier Engineer works closely with peers in Quality, Manufacturing and Sourcing to support and implement modifications to current capital equipment at suppliers, carry out new product introductions, execute improvement projects, resolve business-critical technical issues, and investigate corrective actions in response to quality and assembly issues across the supply base.
The ideal candidate should have the passion and drive to grow their career working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices and should have a strong mechanical and manufacturing engineering aptitude. Candidates should enjoy the factory setting and be comfortable interfacing with and influencing supplier personnel ranging from shop floor operators to leadership.
Responsibilities
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support new product introductions, design changes, supplier transfers, and capacity expansion projects
• Lead projects of moderate complexity with minimal supervision and provide technical recommendations to stakeholders
• Utilize six sigma and statistical tools and resources to lead problem solving and prevent recurrence of issues
• Participate in product design reviews with emphasis on design for manufacture
• Maintain a cGMP compliant environment and operate within FDA guidelines for Class II Medical Device manufacturing
• All other duties as assigned
Education And Experience Minimum Requirements:
• BS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing/industrial, plastics) with 3+ years working experience, preferably in medical device or MS in engineering (mechanical, manufacturing/industrial, plastics) with 1+ years working experience, preferably in medical device
Preferred Skills And Competencies
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong data analysis skills and familiarity using statistical analysis software (Excel/JMP/Minitab)
• Working knowledge of MS Office
• Working Knowledge of Solidworks and GD&T
• Experience in systematic root cause analysis
• Outstanding team player who seeks and values diverse input to hone ideas
• Highly-motivated, self-starter
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, metal stamping, CNC/Swiss Turn, cold forming, etc.
• Experience in high-speed automated manufacturing
• Appreciates the value of timelines and enjoys working in the focused environment that they create
• Ability to travel domestically/Internationally - 20% max; 10% typical
Physical Requirements
• General Office Environment, may sit for long periods of time
• Ability to work in Class 8 Cleanroom Environment for extended periods of time
