Summary

About the Position:

This position is with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), GSL.

This position is a Supervisory Interdisciplinary DB-05 (GS-15) position and can be filled at any of the series below under Additional Information.

Duties

Help

  • Serves as the Chief for the Geosciences and Structures Division (GSD).
  • Ensures integration of civil works research and development activities across all functional programs, maximizing the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory's ability to execute an effective, quality research and development program.
  • Develops, plans, manages, directs, and properly executes complex theoretical and applied research and development programs
  • Uses expert technical knowledge and skills in force protection/force projection and civil works.
  • Manages and directs complex technical programs from planning and marketing to execution and transition to develop technologies for the Army.
  • Anticipates future requirements and demands for assets and resources and creates strategies to meet those requirements and demands when they arise.
  • Exercises a high level of technical and professional competence to continually develop and execute new technology research.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires pre-employment financial disclosure and annually thereafter in accordance with DoD Directive 5500-7-R.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: developing, planning, and operating research and development efforts across many disciplines; leading a large multidisciplinary, multi-organization group engaged in research and development and major operational initiatives; implementing laboratory business processes and policies; and managing a customer-focused program in the civil works area of research and development. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (DB-04 or GS-14).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14).
